My Quaker ate some mushroom, is he going to be okay?

I was having Chinese, and my quaker kept bugging me for some. So I licked off the sauce from bok choy, carrots, meat, and mushroom so he can have a bit of each. I later looked them up and found out that mushroom can be bad for parrots, but is it the same case if it was well cooked?

A very small amount should be okay but keep a close eye on him. The thing that also concerned me is that you licked off the sauce. Human mouths are full of bacteria that parrots are not used to and can get sick from. You really don't want to do that. In this case if you wanted to get the sauce off the noodles or meat the better choice would be to wash it off with water.

Yeah, you're better off just giving him the sauce than the germs from your saliva.

It's not good for him. I know it can cause liver problems if fed on a regular basis. Raw mushrooms can really make them sick and in rare instances kill them. But a little bit cooked, one time, probably won't kill him.

Another thing to note is I wash all Mango's fruit and vegetables in Pure, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. It helps clean and also kill any mold spores on them. :)
Keep him from eating anything you had in your mouth, as others said. I too, believe he will be fine.

Uhhh.... I've never not shared food with Kiwi. I don't lick anything per se and obviously if I'm sick, I don't share, but I'll give him some fruit I'm eating on or feed him off my fork. Guess my mouth must not harbor any poisonous matter;) Sure I'll get 'admonished and a 'good lecture' over feeling this way, but I *personally* think a sterile environment is bad for the immune system of ANY creature and I'm not worried about a little saliva transfer every so often. Don't spit in his mouth and use common sense, but don't go germ phobic either.

And a little mushroom should be fine. He may have runny poops the rest of the day. Parrots don't digest them too well.

Mayybe to a point, like breaking a piece of apple off where i haven't bit, but I wouldn't recommend licking something and then feeding it to a parrot. That's just too much of a chance IMHO.

Below copy/pasted from article:

Cats, dogs gerbils, humans…all mammals… carry a type of bacteria in their bodies that is referred to as “gram negative” bacteria. It is present in our body fluids and we are equipped to deal with it in normal amounts. Birds, however, do not carry gram negative bacteria in their bodies and are not prepared to battle it.

I guess it doesn't always cause bacterial infection, but it "can".
