also im new to owning him anything i should knw about them im wanting him to be a free bird thats alowwed out of his cage alot and food wise ?

also just notice that when i let him walk around hes shakin anyone knw what that means is he scared ?

Is your bird outside in that photo? Because even if your bird is clipped, it could still fly away. I'm not sure what taky means so I can't comment on the feathers.

yeah his cage is outside and his wings are clipped so he doesnt fly :)

such a beautiful baby, but just be careful having him unrestrained outside. although his wings are clipped, with a little breeze he may get enough assistance to fly away. i learnt the hard way. i was playing with oxy (he was only about 4ths old and had had a really bad wing clip, ,y vet coukdnt believe how badly done it was or that he managed to fly) inside when all of a sudden he decided to fly down to me. dont ask me how, cause to this day i still dont know, but he must have gotten past me and managed to get out an open window 20m away in a different room.
i found him the next day about 200m down the road up in a gumtree.

so just be carefull, and i advisevyou harness and recall train him.

I agree with gemini84. At the right time and right place, Rex will still be able to fly. Ozzie my alexandrine is clipped and harness trained. If you go to my second album, you will see photos of him flying in his harness. Especially with alexandrines, they have long tail feathers which will help them fly even higher. So please be careful, and if you want to take him outside, I would harness train him for his safety!

To test a bird's wings to make sure they can't fly, I will (indoors) toss them onto a bed or couch, and see how far they go.

When I got Darcy his wings were clipped, but the woman who did it didn't know how to clip properly apparently, because I almost lost him when I took him outside. Lucky for me he did a U-turn, and came back to me. I promptly had him clipped by somebody more knowledgable, and now if he tries to fly outside (which is rare), he'll just flutter to the ground. You just have to re-check every now and then to make sure they don't need another clipping. Oh, and I would be extra careful and maybe not take them out at all if it is windy.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tacky" feathers. Are they pinfeathers? Google them if you're not sure what that means.

Does he seem scared or cold? Sometimes birds also quiver when they are happy. Look at his behavior and body language.
