Well i am slow moving when it comes to this pellet war :)
I have ate more then Sophie has LOLOL The vet said she will eat what you eat, wellllll thats not true cause she thinks im nuts, and she laughs at me like im eating posion !I try to get her to take it from me but she takes it from me and whips it across the room like MOM do know what that it is.....DONT EAT THAT !!! So im back to ohh no Sophie they are good hmmm look dip them in yogart, juice, anything. She gets mad and leaves. So i started just dumping a big scoop of food on my table and letting her go to town and see what she eats, well all the little seeds went first, then the vegs, then she picked out these little brown pellets ! i was like you got to be kidding me ! all this time you like the pellets in MACAW mix :) but Hates the fruity pebbles mix from zupreem ? So my quest is to find a bag full of these pellets from the
Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Food Mix for Macaws

Sorry i cut and paste that .... if anyone feeds this to there larger birds can you pick through this find the little brown pellets out look at them and see if know what type they are?

Thank you from Sophie and Michelle:white1:

Michelle, I'm sorry I don't know what kind of brown pellets those are in the Higgins Sunburst mix but my U2 is also picky about his pellets. His favorite is Zupreem Garden Goodness softened in water. He likes them dry now too.

i can't help with regards to what sorta pellets they are…but i was faced with the same situation when converting my 'too to pellets!

but i was pleasantly shocked by the fact that he chose harrissons over zupreem fruity:eek::eek:

perhaps you can try offering different kinds of pellets?i'm sure there'll be one that she likes!!:p

i offer roudybush, zupreem natural, pretty bird natural gold, harrissons, tops. hehe maybe i'm just a lucky gal but my 'too has established that he loves harrissons the most…the rest just gets tossed out:11:

I have done some research and i have found the pellets that is in the higgins mix... It is called Higgins Intune all Natural Pellet . I got a bag for Sophie, and yet he still refused most of them. SO after reading alot of the stuff here on how to make sure your parrot is being feed right and so forth, Im really not going to force pellets on him anylonger. He will get his fresh food twice a day like he has been. I will offer him the pellet/seedmix in his cage. If he chooses to pick things out that will be his choice. Otherwise, he was making himself go hungary with me trying to get him to eat the pellets, his little tummy was growing the other day and i couldnt do that to him. I truely believe with his fresh foods and cooked foods he will be ok. Maybe over time he will start to eat more pellets, but for right now that is one stuborn birdy LOL

We have the same problem with Ivory, she would not eat a pellet if her life depended on it. I have a nutribullet, so I put the pellets thru that using the milling blade (much like a coffee grinder), it turns the pellets into a dust. That dust gets sprinkled on everything. She loves the Gourmetfeast and Higgins mixes, so I use a couple of those (mix it up so always something different) and dump them into a large plastic container with screw on lid, like what you might put sugar or cereal in. Then I add some of the pellet dust and shake it all up so everything she eats is coated. One way or another, she has to eat the pellet dust! I sprinkle it on mashes, veggies, chops, etc. and put it into birdie breads. I joke its like a parent hiding broccoli in the brownies to get their human kid to eat their veggies!!

that is a great idea ! I will try that, i do have a bullet already so that makes it easy. Veggies and fruit are no troubles and Potatoes are a big hit so i can hide anything in them LOL

Thanks for the great Idea !

You are very welcome... know I wasted a boatload of money and time trying to find what Ivory would eat... I wish I had the thought at the beginning! But its a trick that continues to work, now if we could just convince her to eat everything that is coated with pellets we'd be really golden. Good news for the local wild birds tho, I keep a large container to dump the leftovers and scoop up the good discards off the floor too, then every couple days line the railing outside with all those leftovers... winter we are having in PA, the birds seem quite thankful! They even get nutriberries because Ivory takes one or two bites and drops it. Its below her to hold her food that long... :)

I hope it works as well for Sophie as it has for Ivory! :)

And haven't seen a post recently, are you sticking with Sophie for the name?!

Well That is a very touch subject between me and my husband right now... Everytime i say Sophie he corrects me ! and says NO he is a boy and his name is Loki ... He is bound to call his little boy Loki, To me he is still just me BABY Sophie LOL i cant get over it. I do try and respect the fact that the other vet made a mistake when sexing him the first time, but for two years i had Sophie, I know that he dont really care just, my husband seems to have the problem really with calling a little boy Sophie.

I worrie about mixing up the poor bird LOl but on a good note, We had his check up and he is doing VERY well after his operation and the doctor seems to very happy with his recovery. He even gave him the go head to go on an outing next week to the bird expo to pick out lots of new toys !

Does sophie respond to sophie or say the name? If he does then thats not fair to him..., maybe a name that sounds similar? Modern Family fans, can call him Mofi :) we have Cam the parakeet and cat named Lily :)

but wonderful he is doing so well, most importsnt...

Sophie hasnt talked yet say, he makes goose sounds, and barks like a dog LOL and most he resposes to " Mommies Baby" ... He does know how to give kisses and high 5's tho :)

For us it's finally come down to feeding Harrison's HP fine pellets mixed with Volkmann Feather glow "birdie buffet" 15 min soak and serve with a sprinkling of chia seeds on top. Fed twice a day. They also get fresh fruits (sometime frozen fruit) and veggies. Kiwi gets one heaping teaspoon and Rio gets two heaping teaspoon. They still never finish and I throw out the left overs. They also get 1 Nutriberry a day or I will alternate a give a very small handful of seed. EZ peezie.

You have to get a video of the high 5!!!
