After a short illness, my Oma (grandmother) passed away at 95 years old. She wasn't much of an animal person, preferring to live alone and being visited by family. She was a great cook and made the best German treats :D.

She will be missed. Love you, Oma :)

I am very sorry for your loss.
My grandmother was from Germany too.
And we called her Oma as well.
She was in Germany after WWII and learned how to make a good tasting meal with very minimal ingredients.
Pot pie was one of my favorite meals
Loved her steak and kidney pie until I learned what kidneys are.
And Christmas time was always filled with German Christmas music.
O Christmas tree sounds so stupid in English.

Sorry to hear of her passing. I too had a German Oma! SHe made some kick ass German dishes, in her prime. UNfortunately, as the years passed and senility set in, she would forget key ingredients or use salt instead of sugar. But she always meant well! My condolences on your Oma.

Oh, I am so, so sorry.
As somebody said to me when my mother passed, "May the sorrow of losing her be outweighed by the joy of having had her in your life".
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks everyone ! One of the things I inherited from her was a porcelain sculpture of a woman feeding chickens with a small bird perched on her hand :D It reminds me so much of my Oma.

It has been many years since the passing of my Grandmothers! Both were truly great cooks and enjoyed cooking for family. One Swedish and the other German.

This time of year, I dig out a few of their beloved recipes and do my best to recreate them from scratch. The aroma is a joy and the memories flow.

I strongly believe in Rainbow Bridge and look to joining them once again whencalled.

Thank-you for inspiring memories of Joy!

May your Grandmother continue to inspire your life.
She is so proud of you!

Music can bring back memories like they were yesterday.
This is one of my favorite German memories.
We had a player piano and lots of German music but this was the most challenging because it’s so long.
As kids our legs were left feeling like rubber after pumping for so long.

I'm so sorry for your loss. May her memory always be a blessing.
