My not so yellow sided conure...recessive gene?

I recently placed an order from a breeder after seeing that they breed beautiful yellow sided conures. The bird is not with me yet, and I asked for an update picture of my conure (which is due to arrive mid nov).

Taken together with this picture is another customer's yellow sided conure. I cannot help but feel very very upset that my conure is not as red and yellow as the other conure. In fact its marking of that of a yellow sided conure is very mild (or in this case bland).

I asked the breeder about the huge difference in colour and he simply said both birds come from different parents. I have never seen any of their clutch produce such mild looking yellow side conures.

Do I have a yellow sided conure with a recessive gene? It looks just like a green cheek with slightly more yellow and a hint of red on it's belly.

Don't get me wrong, but I still want my bird because it's mine through faith. But I don't think I'll be buying anymore birds from this breeder seeing how his replies seem crude and irritated that I'm asking alot about it's colours and markings.

So a yellow sided with recessive genes? Could anyone with such birds show me pictures of your darlings?

Recessive in mutations means that two copies are needed to make a visual copy. On both sides. For example, using the recessive pied mutation in budgies, if you have a recessive pied paired to a normal, you will get all normals/recessive pied ( the / means split to) . But if you have two normal/recessives pied paired, you can get recessive pied babies. A normal/recessive pied budgie wouldn't have any markings of that of the recessive mutation.
Your bird IS a yellow-sided conure, and doesn't have the mutation as a recessive gene.

If your not happy with his colouring why not ask for a discount if the colours are not what they should be when looking at the parents etc then it seems only fair

Remember however that it's only a colour and it's what's on the inside of the bird that counts that loving , playful , spontanious personality that will keep you on your toes and always guessing what's coming next

All the best

Sorry I guess recessive gene was not correct to use. But thank you for correcting me...

Well, I had to pay first or else no bird. Basically booked an egg and waited for it to hatch (can't quite choose can I? But I thought it would be ok considering they breed awesome birds, but I guess you can't be too sure can you?)

You right about enjoying the bird for what it is rather than what it looks like. I will love the bird, just disappointed with the breeders...

I'm sorry, BUT, I'd have to agree with Iloveparrots on this one. If you do your homework, research your breeders, know exactly what you want in a bird personality wise as well as colors and markings, it is understandable why he/she'd be disappointed. He/She DID say that the love they will give the bird will be no less just because of it's markings, however, I would definitely make sure the breeder knows what you were expecting from a baby and what you're getting (color-wise) is NOT what you were expecting. Anyways, on a lighter note dear, I have found in so many, many cases (hubby is a vet tech) with several different types and species of all animals, some of the most non traditional marked dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc... almost ALWAYS has an AMAZING personality. Take my German Shepherd for example... My husband and I 6 yrs ago started researching about the breed itself, making sure we knew as much as we could before buying a puppy, well about 6-7 months later, I started trying to find a breeder, obviously looking at the previous litters the parents had, making sure they produced the traditional black and tan german stock German Shepherd that we LOVED!!! When I finally found what I was looking for, my husband and I traveled 2 1/2 hrs to the breeders home. When we got there, the breeder told us that the puppy has a couple of bare patches on his tail and feet from a fungus that the mother passed along to the puppies, that he was on some meds and he would surely grow the hair back. Well, it did, but not entirely (still some spots on his feet) Also, both parents ears were straight up perfectly, our baby, eh, not so much, LOL... His ears NEVER went up like most shepherds, so we have a floppy eared, bare skin in a couple of small areas on his feet 5 yr old German Shepherd, named Logan.
Logan is the amazing dog in the entire world, the best listener, most kind hearted, loving, sweet boy ever!! I could not ask for a better dog in all the world, he is super smart, gets along with ALL other animals, to include my little CAG that insists on flying and landing on his back or head for a free ride.

The moral of the story is this, THAT baby bird will probably be the MOST amazing bird you will ever own. :) SMART, BEAUTIFUL, SILLY, FUN, LOVING, SWEET, EASY to TRAIN and just plain PERFECT in every other way possible.

The best of luck to you and I am sorry that you didn't get the coloring that you so much wanted, but hope that she is the best bird in the world for you.

Dearest Lisa,

No one has given me such encouragement like you have after I found out about my bird's colouring. I have been upset for weeks, but only you took time to comfort me. I am looking forward to seeing my baby soon and I hope it would be the best conure I would ever have.

Dear Lisa, don't ever stop encouraging people...you have the gift of love, and I see that you're person so full of life, optimism and hope..thank you :)

hehe, Lisa has hit the nail on the head as always!

My Booty Baby (dog) was bought as a border collie because we wanted company for our other border collie - Olly.

My husband always jokes she was made in Taiwan because if she's a border collie then I'm from mars!

She's a lab mix...may or may not be collie lol! She eats everything in sight and likes to squeeze through places she doesn't fit but she is just so loving adorable and all kinds of wonderful!! I cannot express how much I love this dog - like all my other pets, the absolute cream of the crop, no matter what we were expecting!!

Conures are amazingly loving and I adore my sunny so much! To let you in on a little secret, I think nearly every sun owner who has one from a baby secretly wonders if perhaps they're baby is a Jenday (still beautiful, but not as colourful) until the moult begins! Point being, the feathers your baby has might get more vivid but by the time this does or doesn't happen - you won't care - I promise!!!

It's difficult when all you've got is the breeders word and I've been very suspicious since we saw "Boot's parents" (my backside were they!!!) So when the breeder showed me Cal's parents I took it with a pinch of salt! Turns out he was being truthful though lol.

Good luck and I cannot WAIT to see pics of your baby!!!
