Hello again,

I just wanted to report that my Senegal tried over 15 times to say hello this morning. And my roommate who bought the bird actually had a bit of a break down and is now on medications that might make him a little calmer to become friends with Amos again. There is still a grudge. I screwed up though and took Amos for a walk. He bit me and it hurt so I said pretty loudly "hey" and he became afraid and stopped doing it. I know that's not what you are supposed to do but it was an unconscious reaction.

Anyways this morning, not only did he try to say hello, he snickered and whistled and tried making all kind of noises. I think he was a jailed bird at the pet store with little interaction. Now he is proud of himself and gets happy when I call him a pretty bird.

I am pretty excited about it, but today I must clean that cage, as my roommates mental issues have taken up a lot of my time last week.

Hi James glad to hear from you.
You will never forget Jasper's first words. Bet you were besotted. I know I was with my AG Mishka.
Sure the noises he is making, he is trying to talk.
Keep repeating only a few words at a time, you will be rewarded greatly.
Your poor poor roommate, he is having a tough time.
He must gain Amo's trust. This could take time.
Let him sit near the cage and talk to Amos. Not going to close.
Let Amos see he is being friendly.
After a while, let him offer Amos a treat through the bars of the cage.
If he continues with this method, on a daily basis, you should have good results.
Keep us updated
Take care

Sounds like you're doing great. Don't worry about scolding for his bite - in fact in many cases that can interrupt the behavior or the nippy-mood. Being social beings though a time-out or just ignoring them is the clearest way to show disapproval and punish a bad behavior (if needed).

Again, sounds like you're doing great.

Congratulations!! It's good to hear the two of you are getting along so good. Good Luck.:green1:
