Picked up my new breeding paiir of Double Yellow Head Amazons today :D

I got them home and put them in a small temporary quarantine cage at home (I picked them up from my friends place and the pachecos, polyoma, and Chlamyiosis test came back negative :) so, tomorrow I'll move them into their full sized cage)

I was going about my usual evening and the male started singing "take me out to the ball game", and then went into "old MacDonald had a farm".... I laughed so hard! They are beautiful birds and I am really looking forward to seeing how their babies turn out!

They are pretty happy... as far as friendly goes.... well I can touch and groom them but they certainly prefer eachother and if I have one the other likes to try and attack (typical pair :D)

A lady had been thinking of breeding them and changed her mind, so I am suppose to breed them and sell a baby for her in exchange for them (So while she's not in a hurry, I sincerely hope they breed so I can pay her for them)

I plan to put them in the room with my other two pair of Amazons and keep my fingers crossed. The photo doesn't do them justice... they are stunning in person!

Breeding Amazons is fairly new to me (the two pair I have now were my first pairs). I've owned Amazons on and off throughout my life (rehabs etc) but I've really come to enjoy keeping and breeding and raising amazons, so this is pretty exciting for me!

I bought out a breeder a handful of years ago and I turned down is Double Yellow Heads because they were insanely aggressive and sort of ragedy looking.... so it's really great to finally have a pair!

Now I gotta pack (my flight for SC leaves today) and I will have to wait a couple days before I can get back home and get to know them better. My husband loves our current amazons, so I'm sure he'll love these guys too. I can't wait for him to meet them!

I may not be like you guys (I breed birds), but we love all our birds very much and we have no interest in being a huge breeder (my max is about 15 pair of bird total) simply because I can't realistically properly care for more than that.... So whenever we pick out a pair it's a big deal and a permanent commitment. (For example we have a retired pair of CAG's here that will stay here until the end.)

I have one more breeding pair that we are taking on in the next month or so (as soon as their quarantine and medical treatments are over.... A pair of Mollucan Cockatoos.... after them I have 2 single birds I want to pair and then .... WE ARE DONE!

My husband keeps trying to talk me into a pair of rosebreasted toos, and I told him if he retired and stayed home to help I'd consider it...lol

I'll keep you posted with their progress here.

Speaking of which, when I get back I need to take photos of all our babies and post them (everyone loves baby birds!)

They didn't come with names (so sad), so whenevr I get a pair that comes to me as a pair I name them both starting with the same first letter (ex. Alex & Aysa, Simon & Sascha)... I named these two Teddy and Tessa...

They're singing now :D

Silly birds!
