They are SUPER soft and fuzzy!!! And Aretha already has a little poof where her crest feathers will be lol and did you see the fuzz on JP's legs?!? *swoon*

I think baby chicks are the cutest ever!!!!

I can't keep them.....I enjoy chicken too much, if I keep them I would never eat chickens again.....I used to have chickens and my family start to worry about me cause I was beginning to look like a stick then developed to be hypoglycemic later on.....

Thats why we only keep layers. :) It's like outdoor pets with benefits. Except when they sneak in. They like to sleep with the dogs for some reason.

Yep, these little ones are pets/layers....

This means hubby will have to finish the chicken coop soon.

They're so sweet- they just sit in your hand and snuggle...except for Aretha- she's gonna be trouble, I can tell already lol

I told a friend I want to harness train them so I can take them for walks (yep- I'm a crazy bird lady!!)

They sold chicken harnesses at my feed store this spring.... They said they sold out but nobody brought the proof of their chicken on it in for them to see!

How absolutely ADORABLE they are :)! So JP will have feathers on her feet where the fuzz is now?

I think it was the aviator website that sells harnesses for other birds, not just parrots. I'd love to see one of your girls on a harness and leash walking on the ground lol.

I'd love to have fresh eggs instead of store bought! I'm curious about the flavor difference in organic store bought vs farm fresh.

They're so adorable, I can hardly stand it lol

Doublete--
I wonder if an aviator harness will work when they get big enough but are still small enough to wear it?? (before I invest in a chicken harness. Lol)

Julie--
Yes! JP will have feathers on her feet and legs just like she has now *squeeeee!!*

I'll have to check out the aviator website....

We really enjoyed having fresh eggs (and my mom too!) when we had the other chickens-- I can't wait for eggs again!

And my son LOVES hanging out with the "chick chicks" because they let him hold them, pick them up, pet them...

So here are some pics I found on the web of what the ladies will look like all grown up:

Morticia the black jersey giant:
Approximately 10 lbs, brown eggs

JigglyPuff aka JP the light brahma:
Approximately 9.5 lbs, brown eggs

Tiger the gold-laced wyandotte:
Approximately 6.5 lbs, brown eggs

Aretha the golden polish
Approximately 4.5 lbs, white eggs

That's interesting how they'll look as adults. Aretha is such a cutie, look at that massive hairdo she'll get :D. They're all so beautiful. What made you decide on these certain breeds? In chickens we're talking "breed" right? Or is it variety?

I heard that white eggs only come from white chickens and brown from all the colored types. I guess I heard wrong!

Quick egg question... Most of my life I've eaten white eggs. I've only recently started buying brown for the novelty of it lol, but I noticed that with brown eggs, often times I find a couple little brown "spots" floating in the white. Do you know anything about what that is?

Isn't it wild how much they'll change?!

There were only certain ones at the store I had to pick from, and these were the ones I wanted the most-- when I saw they had the polish ones (exotic chickens) I was so excited lol and the big ones-- yes!!! Giant chickens!!!!

(You're correct- with chickens it's "breeds", with parrots it's "species".)

Brown spots floating in the white?? Not sure, but occasionally you'll find a prominent "spot" that would've been the chick had it been fertilized.

I'm squealing with delight at your new chicks, Shirre! I love that you got a variety. It's going to be fun watching them grow up. The names are perfect, I can't wait to see JP's feathery feet when she gets a little older. Sweet photos.

I can't wait to watch them grow up either!! These are my first BABY birds, and thank goodness they're easy lol JP is the sweetest one so far I think --I just checked on them this morning and they all made it through their first night!

They will THRIVE in your care, Shirre, NO doubt in my mind!! :D

I couldn't believe into what 'stoutly' chickens they will grow into. Say, do you know with certainty that you have all hens?? :54:

Aww thanks Wendy [emoji8]

I can't wait to see Morticia-- TEN POUNDS?! [emoji33][emoji7]

The guy said there's a 90% chance they're all hens.... So there's a slim 10% chance I might have a rooster lol but for now- they're all girls in my mind haha

Sweet, Shirre!

What beautiful chicks! And it's insane just how much they'll change as they grow.

I love that your son will get to bond with them from their baby stage. I remember how much he loved the others, do I can imagine the ear to ear smile on his face as he connects with his new friends.

Looking forward to all the pics as they continue to grow and thrive in your care.

Ten pounds? Morticia really will be a giant, that's four pounds heavier than my Yorkie! Gasp!

Wendy's right, Shirre! These lucky little chicks will be very happy and healthy in your care.
