My parents had Rosey, their galah for about a month. Two weeks into purchasing her they took her to the vet and the vet took off her band. I know they did it for good reason but after taking that band off, later that night rosy started mutilating her leg. That same leg where the band was. 3 visits later an e collar, 14 days of antibiotics and foot being wrapped up, we are worried she may start doing it again when they take her e collar off next saturday. she's miserable with it, and they had to put a bigger size on her so she can't reach her feet.

I have read online that products like avicalm and avitech herbal bird RX has worked for some people. will it work for her?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's hit or miss whether or not supplements will help.... and if they do help, you don't know if the bird will have to remain on that supplement for life or if it is possible to wean the bird off of being on that supplement.

Was anything done at the vets office besides removing the band? Is there any possibility that the vet could have accidentally injured her leg in the process of removing the band and she's attacking her leg because it bothers her? As in, she's in pain?

Thank you for getting back to me. The new vet saw her for the last two visits, today he took her collar off and her leg is completely healed. My mom brought to my attention that while they ( the previous vet) took off her band they scratched her leg. And it wasn't seen then. Not until she started biting on her leg, that's when my parents took her back and they bandaged her leg up and never mentioned to us. So this new vet saw the scratch on her leg it was vertical scratch which is healed now. My parents are watching her like a hawk. The new vet said everything looks healed and looks great but everytime she wants to go to that feet to redirect her and tell her "no". I just don't know how my parents are going to watch her overnight. Hopefully all will be well.
