Eclectus and linnie parrokete
Hello
So I have a male eclectus... I'm just a bit confused because everything I have always read says that these birds don't bond with one person.. well my bird has with me and he now HATES my fiance..its so bad that he always has to be in a cage when my fiance is around or else he will fly at him and attack him.. has anyone else had this problem?? Is there anything that can fix this problem?????... It's hard for me because I work 12 hr shifts and now my fiance refuses to have anything to do with the bird. I had a person offer to take him for mating .. is this a good thing or not ??

This is a VERY common problem with most parrots, not just Eclectus. A lot of Eclectus bond to one person if they spend a lot of time with them. You had a person offer to 'take him for mating'? I'm confused by this. As in he has a female that he could pair with your bird? That would not be a good idea at all.

If you want to live in harmony with your fiance and your Eclectus, you'll have to find a way to set more boundaries for your bird. When he goes to attack, that's when he goes in a time-out with a firm 'NO!' and possibly gets clipped wings so he cannot fly at and attack your fiance. Boundaries means your bird understands that bad behaviors gets him less time with you.

agreed ^^^^^^^

I would consider clipping him to curb the attacks, and when he does attack, discipline him by putting him away. try to convince your fiancé to form a relationship with your parrot. He can sit next to the cage and talk to him and maybe they both will come around

Agree with Yum - you will probably have to start from the beginning with the fiance.

Clipping isn't always necessary but I guess it depends on the bird. If he's constantly flying at your fiance and you can't control him otherwise (with training or targeting for example) then maybe it's needed until things settle.

As well as sitting by the cage, if your fiance is interested you can do some in-cage target training to get them communicating, and reward co-operative, calm behaviour. If you take it slowly you can move from targeting, to stepping up.

Tonnes of resources on in-cage training on the internet that can help there.

Taking your eclectus to mate (that is assuming the female they pair him with is actually compatible) won't solve the problem, and even if it did, it'd only solve it temporarily. If you want him to remain a companion parrot you'll need to do a bit of work.

Generally speaking male ekkies are great about accepting more than one perks in. They may have a favorite but can easily be handled by most.

There are always exceptions to these rules however, and it sounds like your boy is one. My boy has a racist streak. Not sure why but he has thus far refused to be handled by anyone of color. He always flies away from black people for some unknown reason.

Work on the socialization. You can wear him down.

Max is good with both the wife and i, lily the lilac crowned amazon is the same
who is now back to full flight fly's where ever she wants and has yet to destroy anything, lol. first off for your guys sake i would take his flight away, it will be around a year for the flight to come back, that should give you plenty of time to train him to either get along or ignore him without him being able to zoom in on him.
