Hi my blue and gold macaw called bazil is sitting on his perch with his entire tail bent and facing the opposite direction, he seems to sit on it and makes a low growling noise, my father seems to think its a mating thing as bazil is constantly trying to mate with me. She regurgitates her food every time I hold her, people joke she/he is in live, also how can u tell what sex they are, when I bought it they said male but looks very female in the face when fluttering her eyes?? The bending of the tail worries me as its making a mess of the tail....please help

It could be her way to masturbate. I've seen many pulling their tail feathers and making grunting noises, but it's uncommon for them to sit on their tails (not unheard of).

Only way to know for sure is to get him DNA sexed sexed, unless she lays an egg.

I think this is more of a playful behavior. I know a Catalina that does the same thing but has no sexual meaning to it just does it to play around with her tail. I've also seen the, scratch there heads with there tail. I don't believe this behavior is anything to be worried about I mean if I had a tail I'd probably play with it to:p.

As stated the only accurate true way to tell sex is to have a blood drawn DNA test:/.

I Also wanted to add that my bluffons macaw boo will grab his first primary flight feather when he is preening. I suppose it is like a handle or something, but this is another example of one of those unexplained actions with little to no reason.
