African Gray, Quaker, Blue Front Amazon
Anyone else have a rescued Quaker? My wonderful Quaker came in a finch cage, free on Craigslist. The old owner was so afraid of her, that she refused to be in the same room when I took her out of that horrible cage. This was a bird who had both of her wings and one leg broken at one point in time, but was never taken to the vet so they fused in place, rendering her flightless. I just didn't understand her fear, I mean, she's the size of a large hamster, come on.

When I asked the previous owner about it, she shrugged and said the previous owner (before her) hit her with a broom when the bird tried to attack her. Personally, I think it was her, but I have no proof so I just packed her up and got her out of there as quickly as possible. As soon as I got her home, I opened the carrier and she climbed right on my shoulder. We named her Chicken, she loves me with a passion, and will attack anyone (even me) when the mood strikes. We also lovingly call her our Velociraptor. She has over fifty words/phrases/noises in her repertoire, and puts our African Gray to shame. Here are a few pics. The one on the black cage is of her first day home and two more recent ones. She never grew all of her feathers back, but she looks a ton better than when we first got her!

Welcome, little Chicken! Pleased to meet you, beautiful girl!

Chanda, thank you so much for giving this special bird the loving home she deserves. She is truly lovely.

It's hard to believe humans are capable of that kind of cruelty. Unthinkable.

Well done for giving your little quaker a caring home.

Perhaps you could include some quaker ninja training for lovely chicken so she can go back and kick that evil woman's ass!

Chanda, thank you so much for giving this pretty girl the caring and loving home she so deserves! Chicken is a beautiful Quaker!!! :smile015:

My eyes started sweating profusely when I read what she had to endure at the hands of her previous human. :(

Thanks :) I love my little Chicken. I've had her about four years and I think she's about ten years old now. She's definitely the fiercest warrior of our little flock! Our gray and amazon are golden retrievers in comparison. Here's another pic of my little monster.

She's such a cutie!

A warm hello from Harry and Sammy!

This sounds just like our experience with Bacca. Husband buys bird because he thinks it will be good pet for child. Child hates it. Wife is afraid of the sweet little thing. Of course, every time we visit we take her out of the cage and play and finally they say, just take the bird.

Ours wasn't nearly as injured. She was however missing her tail feathers after what I suspect was a altercation with their dog.

Picking my jaw up! I can't believe how people can treat critters like this! How sad but glad you have her in your care! And a cutie-pie too!
