Anyone else have a rescued Quaker? My wonderful Quaker came in a finch cage, free on Craigslist. The old owner was so afraid of her, that she refused to be in the same room when I took her out of that horrible cage. This was a bird who had both of her wings and one leg broken at one point in time, but was never taken to the vet so they fused in place, rendering her flightless. I just didn't understand her fear, I mean, she's the size of a large hamster, come on.
When I asked the previous owner about it, she shrugged and said the previous owner (before her) hit her with a broom when the bird tried to attack her. Personally, I think it was her, but I have no proof so I just packed her up and got her out of there as quickly as possible. As soon as I got her home, I opened the carrier and she climbed right on my shoulder. We named her Chicken, she loves me with a passion, and will attack anyone (even me) when the mood strikes. We also lovingly call her our Velociraptor. She has over fifty words/phrases/noises in her repertoire, and puts our African Gray to shame. Here are a few pics. The one on the black cage is of her first day home and two more recent ones. She never grew all of her feathers back, but she looks a ton better than when we first got her!
