Genevieve always naturally wanted to go on her back as well, but she needed to be in a blanket and not in my bare hand, until recently. Somehow the blanket made it all totally acceptable.
Now, the first thing she does in the mornings when I take her out of the cage is fall back on my index finger and have my cup her with my left hand. We just very recently worked up to her letting go of my right hand, but she still grasps the fingers in the hand she's laying in. Once in a while she'll totally let go.
It's great that Kyoto trusts you and is confident enough to do that!
Thank you Lullx. She was hand-raised by a breeder who obviously spent a lot of time handling her before she came home. She just LOVES people. We are very lucky to have adopted such a friendly birdie.
Very lucky indeed! I'm so happy for you and Kyo both
My Genevieve came from an exotic pet store, which I consider a few steps above a big chain store, as far as the birds that come from them. She was hand fed by the store owner, but you can tell they weren't handled too much. I mean, the guy has a huge store he runs by himself, with reptiles and salt water fish as well as birds!
But I was stricken with her when I met her and decided I needed her. I still wouldn't change anything if I somehow could. Just meant I had to work a little harder with her over the months
There aren't really any breeders of any parrots in my area. Have to travel at least an hour in any direction, which is disappointing.
I love it! I hope Quinn will do that someday! He will have been home 3 weeks this Wednesday and today is the first day he started doing little summersaults on his own while we were playing.
