My Introduction

[Tumbala's Girl]

I'm really excited to join this site. We recently adopted a Sun Conure named Tumbala. He is 10 years old. We really didn't know much very much about parrots but when we had the chance to get one free we jumped at the idea. My husband has always wanted a Sun conure. I personally have never owned a bird before and it wasn't really my thing. Unfortunately for my husband, Tumbala has had 2 owners before us and hasn't been around a very many men and has a bad experience with at least one man that we know of for sure. Because of that he doesn't really want to hang out with my husband, But he always wants to be with me! So I'm getting used to having a clingon all the time and I've been reading a lot of information but I still have some questions that hopfully someone will have some advise about!

suns are great. i have a gold capped (sun family) she is so sweet. not a single bite in the 14 years i have had her. that doesn't mean they are all like that though. maybe i'm just that good. lol!

Congrats on the new Sun. There is much to learn so feel free to ask - but as parrots go Suns are good species for new bird owners. They can definitely let you know when they are unhappy, but they also manage to be patient enough to train their owners well.

Thank You! ;-) There is so much to learn! And so much training to be done! I have figured out when he's unhappy but I can't always figure out why! And I'm sure he is training me but I'm not sure it's a good thing. He's actually gotten naughtier. And I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but everything I've read says it's my fault if he's developing new bad habits. As I said he was supposed to be for my husband but he keeps rejecting my husband and that is getting worse also. Any ideas on how to make him more of a family bird? Or has that question already been posted and I just need to find it?
