My husband is learning more about birds but at times he shocks me with what he doesn't know. For example he got home from work, Buddy starts saying Hello so husband goes to Buddy's cage. The cage was open, I was hoping he'd come out today but no. Husband gets to cage, Buddy starts swinging at him. Husband has gotten better about reaching out and touching Buddy, still working with these two. That Amazon mentality is quick in changing.

Husband says Buddy doesn't know the difference between me and husband. Are you kidding me????? So he tells me to come touch Buddy. I reach in Buddy head butts my hand for a head rub. I take my hand out. Husband sticks his hand in Buddy's cage, the beak slashing begins. I put my hand in with husbands, Buddy shoves his head against my hand for a head rub. Husband walks off defeated, lol.

ahhahaha, that's hilarious! You know, they've actually done studied on facial recognition in birds, and in specific crows. They had about 8 different people come disturb a nest in a tree, and then walk by. If the people who had disturbed the nest walked by, they would swoop down and attack. If they wore a mask, then the crows would leave them alone. They know who is who - otherwise how would they pick a favourite? ;)

For some reasons, my YNA also will lunge at my younger girl whenever she comes near. They can feel the energy level in us and reacts accordingly.

We have the opposite experience at our house. My husband is also new to birds, but they ALL LOVE HIM and tolerate me. I mean, I have good realtionships with them, but he is everyone's favorite. Next time I bring home a pet I am going to make sure he is gone for several months when i do (which he does frequently due to the Army).

Don't take it personally, Hubby, they're pair bond birds...

Which makes you the... uhhh... yeah, on second thought, it's personal! It's very, very personal.... That's MY wife you little #@$*!!! :D

Tell your hubby to talk softly to him, and have a treat he likes in your hubbies hand, "without you", Jasper doesn't like it when my hubby messes with him while I am around.

LOL! Both Buddy and Husband both act 5. Husband has World Cup fever right now. Today we had family over and Buddy had a lot of new people. He is an attention pig too, lol. He put on a show. My 19 month old nephew came over and he was mesmerized and scared of loud Buddy but laughed when Buddy would say Hello and make all his sounds even laughing. That was fun to watch. Buddy did come out to visit, my nephew gave him an animal cookie. Buddy impolitely bit a piece and crumbled it and dropped on my shirt. Nephew's attention goes to the big bulldog and his slimy toy, animal cracker hits the trash. My mother wanted so badly for him to get on her finger but he made it clear I was the only one he'd deal with. I cracked up because I thought about Birdman's response, ROTFL!!! I think Buddy did very well with visitors and was pleasantly surprised because he spoke to everyone and put on the Buddy Show, lol.

Sounds like Buddy had a nice time socializing. That's great! :) He's really coming around and if family likes him, that's a perfect way to socialize him.
