Abby- Green wing macaw
Piccollo- Sun Conure.

Fosterer of many diff species :)
I adopted this beauty last Friday. She is about 7 years old. Everything is going great so far, just building the trust and letting her enjoy her new surroundings and Roscoe of course. After things did not work out with the cockatoo , I gave myself a few months to think about another Macaw. So here she is and I'm so happy now. She was found 5 years ago just hangin out on a telephone pole. Probably escaped, but her owner never came forward. The lady she has been with all this time decided she need a home that she would get more attention. But she was obviously well taken care of. Enjoy her pictures :) :blue::red1:

Thanks everybody! Abby just isnt a name I wanted for her, but to make it an easy name transition, Baba is similar ,plus, yes its fun :)
I am def a macaw kinda gal. They require tough love, because they will take advantage of any kind of fear. She is much bigger than my bng so I have to just go for it and hope she doesn't bite. Yes more Baba pics for all you sweet peeps. :red1::blue:

That picture was from the day I got her. She hung out in a little side room while we loaded her huge cage. I think she was excited because she was talking to me the whole way home. So cute!

I gotta ask, I am giving her lap time everyday, but she absolutely wont let me touch her aside from when she is in the cage... Whats a good way to change this?

When she is on your lap, what are you doing with her?

When she is completely calm, use two fingers to actually hold the beak at the thick part, near the top. Then use the other hand to scratch her head WITHOUT letting go of the beak. Chances are, when it feels good, she will enjoy this. Soon enough, you won't have to hold the beak anymore, and she'll just accept touching. Then immediately work on preening the tail. Tail touching is a macaw triggerpoint... if not trained to allow it, they generally won't.

This trains her to accept it, AND to accept you holding onto her beak, at a later time when she is reluctant to let strangers touch... which is a socialization step down the road.

Because I'm still getting to know her, I'm just letting her chill on my lap with my hands in the air. LOL, i will def try the fingers on the thick part of the beak. If that doesnt work, I'll just give her more time def.
