I've been wanting to make my own mash for a couple of weeks now and this weekend my daughter was VERY excited to give this a try. I used the following link as the basis for my recipe:
Bird Mash Recipe
I used a PC (President's Choice) bag of bean soup mix that contained 7 or 8 different beans and a Asian rice mix that contained 12 whole grains. I mixed a cup of each together and cooked it for 30 minutes covered at a slow simmer. Once done, I removed from heat and added a bit over a cup of various mixed ingredients including dried fruit, some oatmeal and a bunch of broken up nutria-berries. I then added about a cup and a half - 2 cups of chopped/diced veggies including carrots, greenbeans, peas, spinach, red peppers, and zucchini (basically, whatever I had in the fridge) and a few wedges of apple.
Some pics of the labor of love:
Bean and grain mix cooking away:
Misc dry ingredients to add once it's done (the dried fruits are at the bottom):
Veggies:
My daughter assists with getting the ice-cube trays ready and digs for another raisin:
My daughter snuck in a photo of the chef at work:
ALL DONE!! Ready to freeze in the trays and of course put a bit aside for some Tango tasting...
Time to fill up some trays:
2 months of mash ready for the freezer (assuming Tango even likes this... lol!):
Now the important part!!!! Is this Tango Tested and Approved? Do we have a winner? A classic?? A Piece de Resistance????? I'll let the picture answer:
SUCCESS!
Thanks for looking!!!
