Shasta was being very sweet while we ate dinner tonight,

Her favorite on tonight's menu steamed butternut squash:D I find she can be ummm kinda picky considering when she came to me she lived off of sunflower seeds:eek: Its been an experience say the least to find stuff she likes and (look to the left look to the right) I mash Harrison pellets into dust and add it to everything shhhhh lol any suggestions? I have no idea why but she hates anything green and wont even touch it, even when I dance around eating it and act like it's the best thing ever:p

Her recheck appointment is Friday and hope this is her last one for a few months, it been a pretty long road getting her back to healthy. When I got her she was so deficient in Vitamins, Minerals and was really underweight. I just think all of the homes before me didnt understand with her deformed beak it takes a little extra time to assure shes eating properly.

Hers some pics of my sweet baby, I hope they aren't upside down lol

Edit: dang they are sideways

Aw, looks like she’s enjoying that meal! Just keep being creative and trying new foods. And don’t be afraid to try the same things more than once. All of mine were seed junkies when I got them, and they didn’t like many things the first time I tried feeding them. I tried different combos, cut different sizes, raw, cooked, puréed....different reactions every time. Persistence is key :)

Wow, that is one crazy beak :) (I dont remember having met you guys, so excuse me if I say say somehting stupid)

Is she a fanatic cage-bar-rubber?
(where they grab onto a bar and move sideways a lot, sometimes to get attention, sometimes to work off some inner tension)

She looks so good; those bright eyes with a little naughty gleam aka "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" expression maskerading as "I look cuuuute, do not resist me!".

Good luck on the "plze eat this"-quest.

Shasta is a beauty!

Conversion to a healthy diet is not easy and is a process! An all-seed diet is akin to a child loving cheeseburgers, mac n' cheese, Pop Tarts, etc. Best advice is to offer a wide variety of preferred foods and be patient. Oft times a strange new food will be tossed overboard repeatedly. One day, it may spark curiosity and become a dietary staple. One of my Goffins ignored pear literally for decades... one day she tried a bite and loves it.

Try making two bowls of veggies and fruits - one for Shasta, the second for you. Begin eating and feign great enjoyment by bobbing your head and making "Mmmmm" sounds. Birds are flock eaters and you are part of the flock!

Two words

Birdy bread.

You can mix kale or spinach and all kind of good stuff.
My pickest eaters like it. It’s a lot of work though.

Hi Christina,

Not stupid at all, Shasta was born with a beak defect. Aside from making sure she eats it doesn't stop her at all lol

Thanks Scott I think shes beautiful too but I'm kinda biased;)

Thank you for the link, I do eat with Shasta every day, I actually have a few bits of red bell pepper in my hair to prove it:08:

She has actually come a long way since she came to me, I'm just trying my absolute best to make sure she has an all around balanced diet. I want to give her some credit though she went from living off of only Sunflower seeds to eating pellets, some fresh veggis and fruit.

Bird bread you say? Hmmm I'm gonna have to try making her some.

Is there a recipe around here some where?

Sometimes birdy bread isn't the only answer. My BFA hates sweet potatoes. Won't touch them, except to throw them on the floor. So, I tried making birdy bread with them in it. That goes on the floor also. He will eat birdy bread with carrots, and butternut squash, but somehow knows when there is sweet potato in it. How did they get so smart? LOL

I recently removed all seed from his diet. He is 35, and a bit chubby. I gradually reduced the seed and added more kinds of pellets. What really helped is a mix of dried veggies, such as peas and dried corn. He really likes that, and it kind of mimics breaking seed open. We shall see how well this lasts, but I am very happy to have the seed gone from his diet.

I guess the answer is to try everything until you find the mix that works. Sam also eats lots of veggies, so I am not too worried.
