For those of you that have followed my 7 yr old QP Vinny -thank you for all the good advice. Great people on this site. Vinny has turned the corner after 5 months-we are now buddies. Every morning, he comes out of his cage and greets me with a kiss. I give him Harrisons HP pellets as a treat so he will eat them. He readily gets on my shoulder and now steps up on command. Twice daily he sits in my lap and watches TV with me without flying back to the cage. We have two training sessions a day in another room on a training perch. We practice step up and I also taught him to wave. Now working on the wings trick where he will lift up his wings when I say wings. Everyone says I should use a clicker as a communication bridge but he freaks out at the site of the stick and clicker. So instead, when he does what I want him to do I just say "Good Boy" and he says it back to me. He has come a long way but we still have a long way to go. He still gets stubborn some times -i.e if he does not like his dinner he will pick up the dish and throw it. Next-got to get him to bathe . Thanks

Exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that Vinny is pleased with your progress! Keep up your good work, Cousin.

:)

Awesome!!! I'm glad you've reached that point, and it will only get better and better!!!

You and Vinny are making great progress. And of course he can be stubborn-- he's a parrot, and parrots are good at stubborn. :D

You guys upped the bar!!! I need to get training!! Great job!!! What an awesome connection you two have! :)

Good work with Vinnie. Some parrots work welll with clickers some do not. My Salty does not, but does respond with a treat , a good boy or good job, and he LOVES applause! Your going to find that once the lightbulb goes on with vinnie , he will pick up tricks like a sponge.

Thanks QP lovers. He is now interested in the puppy-have to watch them. Tonight when we were sitting on recliner -he wanted my coffee cup- no way.
He is picking up more each day- now starting to lift wings on command and without clicker. I will try to post more photos of him but he still freaks at the camera.

Captain-

I have enjoyed Salty's performance and trick training. Couple of questions- I believe that a bird will respond more to training when they are hungry. Did you do the bulk of your training prior to meals and what did you use as a treat. Vinnie wants to learn new thing but I can sense that he is afraid , not sure, but will try. Today, I am working on him laying on his back in my hand. He is a little unsure. Thanks
