Hello, I’ve had my black headed caique for two months now and he’s great only, he just doesn’t want to go on his back. I’m trying to get him to go on his back by making him lay down in my palm then put my hand over my bed and slide my hand off but he just uses his head to get up.

I would really like if he could go on his back because it can make for great tricks and it’s really cute!

well he doesn't want to play on his back. Bit simple really

remember he isn't a toy for you, he's a living creature with his own desires. If he doesn't want to be on his back then that's up to him. It can be scary for them because it blocks their wings opening which in the wild means they just lost escape plans A through Z

All birds have their preferences, and as stated above, some birds just don't like being on their backs. I had a Jenday Conure I loved dearly, I also tried to get him to be on his back more but he just never wanted to do it. Some bids just don't like it very much. There probably is not much you can do about it except just accept him the way he is.

Playing on their back is very common with caiques, but my friend has one that never does it. Just like many African Greys talk not all will. He may start later but it may just not be in his nature. Two months is a short time to be in a new home and as he grows more comfortable he may be willing to get on his back and may even start just because he wants too. But if he never does then no big deal, you still have an awesome little friend for years to come.

Some birds get more comfortable with it over time as they realize they don't get hurt. I've read that when a parrot thinks it is about to be eaten and can't escape, it turns belly up with claws in the air. Last ditch defense. So maybe there is something about that pose that is wired to fear, a bit, and might fade as no danger arises.

Try giving him small pingpong balls or similar sized safe toys to play with . Salty will let me hold him in my hand for a few seconds but he will play with a whiffle ball in his cage on his back.
