Hello all,
I am fairly new to this forum. This topic I'm posting is to help evaltuate the situation before panicing over my Fids health.

I've noticed recently (last 2 weeks or so) my budgie's left eye does not pin/dialte when interested, threatened or adjusting to light. It just stays open and all black. His right eye, however, dilates like normal. I've had pet budgies before, and both of her eyes would dilate /pin like normal when reacting to stimuli. Then,my brotherhad pointed out that my pest cousin, for fun, flashed his phone light right into my birds eye. I actually think he cold be blind in one eye. Is this possible? or is it normal?
His behaviour is normal, he flies around find, and recognizes my voice and plays with his toys.

Please help me, I love my little baby so much, and my heart shatters thinking something could be wrong..:green:

As always an avain veterinarian is yiur best bet.
An infection can cause the iris to darken making the whole eye black. It happened in 2 of my sick birds. So an infection like chlamydia is possible. You do not have to have other classic symptoms to have a sick bird.

Head trauma

Or depending on color. My pied has black eyes, so you could have one color in one eye abd one in a different. But if normal before, my first guess is infection. And a visit to avian vet is needed.

Welcome to the forum. Budgies are magical, I can understand why you want to do right and take care if them.

Because I'm always promoting leafy green lettuces, ( packed with nutrition) and veggies. I hope you are offering them to yours. It wasn't that long ago that I thought Budgies only ate seeds. But no, they love veggies! Swiss chard, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, celery top greens, bell pepper, green beans, peas, corn, carrots, and so much more.

To attach a picture of his eyes, click go advanced under text box, click paperclip, choose file, upload the button on far right, when upload close window and post. Attached as thumbnail under your text.

Truly great advise provided above!!!
Strongly recommend that you follow it!
With eye sight, an Avian Medical Professional will be your best choice.

Sorry to hear of potential eye problem with your budgie. As others have said, an avian vet is best!
