I was hanging out with my two birds on the livingroom, and when it was time for bed, i noticed my eastern rosella's small feathers under his tail, werent the same color as they were before, they used to be a really bright red, but now appear orange.

I went to check his last photos that were from 5 days ago and he still had his full red coloring. i noticed my birds are probably both molting but i didnt notice any red feathers that fell from him...

He also behaves normaly, he sings a lot, eats and drinks normaly, plays a lot and is curious and territorial like always.

Idk whats happening to him, but im dead worried about it, im so scared that hes sick, and right at such a terrible time where we cant even get out of home and get him to a vet, so i needed opinions from other bird owners, maybe its the weather change or smth? im hoping so...

My birds feathers get lighter before a molt. I think is normal, you ok.
Welcomed to the forum. It is a scary world right now.
But we got you, and we love our birds too!
You can attach a pic if you want. Click go advanced under text box and add

Welcome to the Forums to you and your rosella. I'm always astonished at how many far flung places around the world our little Aussie mates end up in! Thank you for taking such good care of him and I'm looking foward to some pictures too :)

Waaah that makes me so so happy!! 😭

The rosella is named rosita, hes one angry boy but hes so curious and a talented singer!
And the cockatiel is named cinnamon! shes my little clingy bby, a sassy girl with no singling talent but with smch personality who demands kisses and cuddles!
Next month they are going to get a baby brother!

My mom always had the passion of raising baby birds ever since i was really young, and ever since the day she let me handle them and raise my first bird (RIP butter), i absolutely fell in love! birds just mean smch to me, the special bound that u form with them, how u get to know them and everything, they are just so healing and special, and a huge help to my mental health too.

How wonderful to know your birds have brought such joy into your life! Your babies certainly are beautiful :)

It may interest you to know how rosellas got their name. When the British colonists established the town of Sydney and it began to expand, they noticed the flocks of pretty parrots that lived in an area they had named Rose Hill. They named the birds "Rose Hillers", and "rosella" evolved from there!

The eastern rosella has also been a common sight on our supermarket shelves for many years, as it has been famously used as a logo by a food manufacturing company, as pictured below...

(No actual rosellas are harmed in the making of any Rosella food products :04:)

I'm glad you're researching and reaching out...

If you decide to pursue some veterinary help at some point... maybe this will help...

Certified Avian Vets
https://abvp.com/animal-owners/find-an-abvp-specialist/
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"

A start...?

I do want to go to a vet, but unfortunately we currently cant because my whole town is in quarenten and its not allowed to leave, so ill go once this whole thing calms down!

And my worries have calmed down, i investigated a bit where hes been and what he did and im 70% sure abt what might have happened, and hes been really ok, his dropping is good and everything else looks normal so im sure everything will be fine and the feathers will get replaced with a new molt!

I agree, everything's ok
Love the new avitar you've got!
How's it going , freinds and family ok?
Stay healthy new freind!

Thats so interesting!! It always makes me happy to see more about my baby! :D

Its a shame to not find that many rosella owners, i noticed they have quite the complicated reputation by what people tell, but its not all true! They can be such playfull, smart and funny birds!
