For me music is like hugs to the soul. It can be uplifting, awakening, annoying, irritating, etc.

How about a thread about YOUR favorite music. Whether it's a song, artist, group, etc.

I'll start with 2. Believe me, my "taste" is quite varied, even though you may roll your eyes after seeing my first 2 options.

Perhaps it's because of the "season", but THIS song touches me each and every time I hear it.

ummm, i like songs off of movies, because i watch so many movies sooo, i love the songs on the muppet movies the songs on the musical ep of buffy the vampire slayer, scrubs, ect LOL

I'll listen to just about anything, but if I had to choose a favorite genre, it would have to be cyber/industrial. My favorite band/artist is tied between Skinny Puppy and Taurus Riley (he's a reggae artist, but I love his music). Right now, I've been liking a pretty obscure group called Eisenfunk. They've been around for a while, but I just recently heard their stuff (Kiwi seems to really like their music too!). The only kind of music banished from our house is country or anything with that whiny/twangy thing going on. It's like nails to a chalkboard for me. Besides those, we have the full range of music on in our house- industrial, rock, metal, reggae, classical, rap, ska, big band, techno you name it.... I really try to keep an open mind with music.

Wow, Kiwibird, I admire you, because RAP was something I could not, and would not listen to for the LONGEST time. Just made me cringe (among other things)..like you described "nails to the chalkboard" <-- that's what rap does/did to me.

I've become "somewhat" tolerant to "some" of it, but I admit, I still don't "DIG" it.

Give me Techno any given day, at least I can "move" freely without feeling awkward or breaking a bone.

And now I have to look up Skinny Puppy + Taurus Riley, because I haven't heard of either of them (as far as I know).

Actually listening to Pink Floyd right now and have the Zon's with me, apparently they like them as well, it turns them into chatterboxes LOL I got a vid of it I need to upload of them chattering away.

Rap isn't really my favorite thing either, it's more of my husbands thing, but I don't mind the less mainstream stuff he listens to. He doesn't really listen to the mindless stuff that's on the radio 24/7. Check out Immortal Technique, he's probably my favorite rap artist. His music isn't really about sex and getting drunk/high, it's more focused on political and societal issues. If you actually listen to his lyrics, you learn a good deal about the state of the world the mainstream media stays away from. Andre Nickatina and Atmosphere aren't too bad either beat-wise, but I'm not always a fan of the subject matter.

Wanted to add Jersey, if your going to check out Skinny Puppy, be warned it's pretty out there (then again, I'm pretty out there) and its definitely not music everyone would enjoy. But I applaud you for even looking at them, most people wouldn't And if you check out immortal technique, unless you like his other stuff, hold off on dance with the devil. It's a very, for lack of a better word, sad song.

I can't stand rap as well, but I don't criticize people who do. It's just not my style.

Anyways, I absolutely LOVE Adele , Ed Sheeran, and Laurena (She's not exactly well known though, just tons of amazing YouTube vids), as you can see obviously LOL.
