I'm currently making a large playlist spanning several cds to play when I leave for work so Boomer doesn't get too bored. So far I've only used soothing sounds of birds and nature accompanied by mellow classical or meditative music. He also likes traditional Chinese flute music for some reason.

Do you find that it helps to play music when you leave your birds at home? What kind of songs do your birds respond positively to?

Ozzie really likes the song shake your tail feathers! I play it for him when he is bored, and he will sometimes even dance with it! I also found out that he like gangnam style! Lol :D It was on the radio the other day, and he was going crazy dancing with it! :D

I used to play music for him when I'm away, but not anymore. I've found out Ozzie is most of the time either playing with toys, or is sleeping while I'm out. So I guess I would give him some time to take naps :)

Darcy likes rock and jazz. He's very particular though. He'll rock out to one song, and then sit still for the next song. I'm not sure what qualities he likes though. I was playing him a lot of classical for a while, but I realized he likes this stuff better.

Yogi likes rock, metal, reggae (especially bob marley)...pretty much anything with a guitar in it

I just read an article that examined a pair of greys in this months addition of parrot magazine. Seems they perfered jazz and classical, and got outright outraged whenever electronic dance music was played. Pop was the second favourite if there were voices.

Mine also like Peruvian music like the bamboo flutes with all the sound effects like waterfalls. But then again so do I. The song of the condure or pass of the condure is hauntingly beautiful. I first started hearing the music at the Boston Flower show And Topsfield Fair in Mass. I would follow the music and bought several Cds and have bought more. It is such a peaceful, like I said hauntingly beautiful music. I am now an addict :D

You should probably try a bunch of stuff and see what Boomer likes. Birds are all individuals- I have 2 budgies; one gets excited about gangsta rap, while the other likes club dance music. Quieter/slower music just seems to bore them.

I think I may have read that same article a while back, Karigan. I'm not sure how reliable the study is though. While I'm sure those african greys may have genuinely disliked dance music, it's a stretch to say that all parrots would feel the same. I've seen some conures dance to some upbeat songs (like Bill Jean) on Youtube after all!

I don't play a lot of dance or upbeat music anyway. The few times I tried, Boomer either ignored it or did one of his 'Something's not right' clucks.

Thanks for all the responses, I played the pass of the condor (The condor pass) on Youtube and liked it. I'll throw in some jazz in the playlist too.

Mango is crazy for Michael Jackson  He loves anything with a regular beat that he can dance to. Music doesnt calm him down, it makes him absolutely nutts. He also likes gangam style and pretty much any kind of dance music. He doesnt much like that dubstep music though, gets him grumpy. I think its just a bit too much. He doesnt seem to mind rock and blues (my preference) but doesnt get excited when I play it.

My birds like dance music (dare I say disco! Hahaha) but most of the time they dance around to Disney music on Pandora. They live in my daycare so I am limited to what I can play.
