Mr. Sunshine, a 15 to 20 year old Panama Amazon Parrot.
I caught him sitting on his cage door scratching his head; too cute!:D So, I grabbed the camera and wanted to see if he would let me touch him outside without his cage bars between us.

As he thought it should be, I was honored that he trusted me enough to let me indulge him. Then he decided he liked the camera and got up close and personal! Tell me he don't look dinosaur-ish when he gets up close, lol?

He is becoming receptive to love and correction as you can see when he tries his beak out on my hand. And yes, that mark is from the other night when I first placed my hand on the door next to him. It was time to slow down. That is besides the big chomp he took from my right hand index finger 2 weeks ago.

We are working hard on building a two way trust. We will get there! It will be 7 wks tomorrow.

Pine nuts for the win !!! That now becomes his training treat, or when he does something really good, like talking on command. For scratchies, I have certain hand signal that I give Salty, to see if he wants one, or not. Only used for scratchies, and it save nips if he is not in the mood. Like any training -be consistent! I will Ask Salty if he wants a scratchie, and use the hand signal at the same time. As Sunshine opens more, he may like scratchies, around his eys, or jaw line, or even his nares or adjacent areas. These all are "SAFE" areas, that will not trigger hormonal or mating behaviour.

I love the tone of his voice, for the little sounds he made. Its gonna be interesting to hear him when he talks or starts to sing.

Wow, wonderful progress! And such a handsome guy :)

Mr. Sunshine seems like such a good bird. You’re doing great in your training and trust building with him too. Soon enough, you’ll really start reaping the rewards of your efforts.
