Hello everyone! I am looking for some tips on making car rides a less stressful (or maybe even fun?) thing for my two GCC. They are 12 weeks old and I’ve had them for almost 2 weeks. I have made so much progress already training them and bonding with them, they finally want to be with me instead of tolerating me haha I moved in with my boyfriend about a week ago but I was worried about moving the birds so soon. I’ve been driving back and forth between cities so I’d love to have them moved today. I’m worried being in a box in the car and changing their environment could have a negative effect on our relationship and the progress we’ve made :( Any tips for car rides or changing environments are greatly appreciated! :)

Get them out into the vehicle and drive around town to see how they handle being in the carrier and riding. A good half an hour will quickly tell you all you will need to know. So Parrots will want to see what is going on to explain the odd movement of the vehicle.

So, get out and do a quick trip around town.

Note: Some Parrots work best if they can see the great outdoors, others are either not interested or seem happier not to know.

Sunshine can overheat them during the Summer months, so be prepared with a towel to set on the Sun side of the carrier.

When you get to their new home, provide the Real Estate Agent's tour of the new home over the next several days.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forums! Excellent advice from "Sailboat" acclimating them to car rides. On the plus side, they are young and should faster than older birds. At least they have you as a constant.

A small cage that is seat belted in place, with a lttle water and perches is what to carry them in. The rest is short trips to longer ones like SailBoat said. jh

Welcome to you! I know this is all happening fast, so do the best you can! Car sickness isn’t unusual, but scary for the folks!

Thank you so much for all the advice! We successfully made the move yesterday :) the beginning of the car ride was a little uneasy, but I quickly learned that they calm down if I sing. Overall much less stressful for the birds (and me!) than I anticipated.

Congratulations!
In the 35+ years I've lived with the Rickeybird, we've made plenty of moves, using the very tactics above. And there's a lot more to learn and enjoy here...
I hope you'll keep sharing your adventures with us!
