Moving Stress

I'm moving, and I've been stressed preparing for it. I'm moving back in with my mom, and I had to do a bunch of repairs on my room in order to make it comfortable for me. I had to clean it (it was being used as a very unorganized storage room), fix at least a dozen large holes, plus smaller holes, and prime it (no time to paint), take out all the scary carpet, and learn to do all of that stuff.

I think Puck is starting to get stressed too. He's been kind of antisocial the last few days, and it's been hard to coax him off of his cage. Most of the time he has been wanting to just stay on his cage, and not interact with me. Once I'm able to remove him from his cage, which he protests to (although I never force him), he's usually fine, and will play and cuddle.

In general though, he's been a bit moodier than normal, and has had a bunch of episodes of "demon mode", which may or may not be related.

I'm trying to make sure he gets plenty of attention. Most of the days I've been working on the house, I've left him in another room with my mom and/or the roommate, and I come out to say hi to him periodically.

Any ideas on how to ease his stress? I totally spaced, and I already packed and moved his AviCalm and the chamomile tea. I'm moving the last of my stuff tomorrow, so it should be over soon though. He likes her house a lot, so I don't think the transition will be too hard once we're there.

I think he probably feels your stress and anxiety about everything. I bet once you are all moved in and things calm down he will be back to normal. When I was a young teacher I moved a lot going from job to job. I had a cat then who would start getting stressed as soon as I started packing up boxes. And the first day or so in the new place she would be stressed as well. One of them I arrived much later than anticipated and was just happy to get all my stuff out of the U Haul truck and up into the apartment. The mattress was just laying on the living room floor and I just slept right there. At 3am she woke me up howling and I thought something bad had happened like a fire. No, it was just her way of telling me she was very stressed out about the new place and stuff being all over the place.

Both of my Ringnecks were not only just moved, but changed owners. Though it's only been 2 days, they are starting to respond better. It all just takes time.

Special treats don't hurt either.
