Thanks to cannon farms I have found a wonderful home for Hannibal. His new parents are planning to come and take him home in a week or so. :red1:

So, that's my good news. And I've got a lot of emotions right now. I'm so grateful to Patricia (cannon farms) for stepping in like she did. She knew how to word the listing, how to screen the replies, what questions to ask. She connected me with a wonderful couple who are experienced with macaws and are eagerly looking forward to giving Hannibal the home and life he deserves.

Its amazing what one good person can do. Thank you so much!

I'm also grateful to MikeyTN for his encouragement and for keeping me level. I was pretty close to doing something very foolish before I called him the other night and he kept my thinking straight so I could do what was best for Hannibal and for me. There are others who sent kind words my way and I appreciate them as well. Thank you Rio Mom, HRH Di, kitt, SpiritBird, JJones and Merlin's mom. (Sorry if I missed you, by the way. Please don't feel slighted!)

I'm sad because I wanted a parrot for seven years before I found Hannibal. Even though we didn't bond, I do love him and when he goes to his new home there will be a hole in my life. I'm actually going to miss being woken up every morning by giggles, beeps, honks and shouts of Mama Mama from the living room/kitchen.

I'm not sure if I'll stay on the forum or not once Hannibal goes to his new home. I still love parrots so I guess we'll see. I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me through this and to let those who care know that Hannibal is going to a good home.

I'm sorry to hear but it is good to hear that Hannibal is going to a good family.

Maybe one day you could pick up where you left off with a new bird? Silver lining maybe?

Maybe.

Not for awhile though and most likely not another macaw.

I'm glad you were able to find a home for Hannibal. I wish you the best rebuilding your life! I hope you stay on the forum with us. :)

I'm glad everything went well!!!! Drop me a line anytime! :)

Fantastic, I'm glad you were able to relocate Hannibal. I'm sure the right bird is out there for you so just keep looking. I hope you don't leave the forums, you would be missed.

Mike

This is a fine example of community. That is what this forum is all about. Best of luck to you and family.

I'm so glad things are looking up for you. Please don't be a stranger around here.

Darkling, I do not know the story/history behind this post as I was offline for 2weeks or more moving but I'm happy to hear that you were able to find a home for your macaw. We are all here for you and hope to continue to see you on the forums and even recieve your advice with situations. Life is a bumpy road, all we can do is hang on for the ride. (maybe alter it here and there to miss a few bumps.. hehe) again, I wish you and your family the best and hope everything goes smoothly for you. God Bless my friend.

I guess its kind of hard for me to imagine "the next bird" at this point. Though if I'm honest with myself, I know that I still want a bird in my life. You don't want something for 7 years and then suddenly have the desire go away when things don't work out.

I'll stick around. Maybe I'll find my next bird right here. In the meantime I'll just enjoy the company and admire everyone else's beautiful birds. ^^

May I ask what happened that you ended up rehoming Hannibal?

Two things, really.

I'd been having problems with him from the start. He wasn't as tame as I was led to believe (IE. not tamed at all) and I'm not experienced enough to tame a bird of his size so he was bullying me on pretty much a daily basis. Not his fault. Mostly mine and the girl who owned him before I got him.

I had planned on trying to work through that but then the tornadoes came through and took out huge sections of my town. My home wasn't hit but I lost a big chunk of my income and suddenly I couldn't afford to care for Hannibal anymore.. Other people offered to help but I'm going to be moving in with my Mom at the end of the month and she won't let me bring him along.

So really, rather than bounce him around anymore than he already has been, I figured it would be best to let him go to someone who can handle him and give him the care he needs. Someone here from the forum stepped in and helped me find this awesome couple and here we are now.

Once I get into my own place again I'll probably start looking for another bird but definitely not a macaw. I'm thinking something much smaller and less intimidating would be more my speed. I have so learned my lesson there.

I am so happy that Hannibal has found a good home....I can't even imagine how hard all of this has been on you.....I am sorry that you have had some really tough times but these things only make us stronger.
I believe things happen for a reason and I believe you will have a bird again some day soon and you will be happy with that bird...
I would love for you to stick around and continue to learn and share stories.
It will all work out for the better. I have the feeling that the future holds some very special things for you so hang in there and chin up....I am sending positive vibes your way and some big hugs too......

Yeah I understand all of that. I'm sorry to hear about what your going through! Im here for ya! That was one of the reason's i got Jessie as a featherless baby.. the intimidating factor was my biggest reason! LOL
