Basil CAG
Ive been trying to read up on this but everything I find is a bit vague...

Can anyone tell me how often a CAG will moult and how do we know this is moult and not just him returning to feather plucking????

We have found a couple of feathers in the bottom of his cage..

The difficulty is Basil had a lot of missing feathers, grew a lot of fluff replaced some of that with feather but not all so its hard to see whats going on!

He is eating well and seems happy in himself talking more and playing ok..

thanks in advance

hummm nut was a chewer an plucker :(

then she molted and i was amazed at how many feathers could still come off a near bald bird!:11:

a couple of feathers prob just part of the molting thing, unless there is blood on them? thought nut had finished molting, but she still drops the odd feather

i think most birds moult two times a year. I have noticed they lose feathers in pairs but thats not always the case. If it is plucking you will see a little blood with the lost feathers. My little sun conure always seems to be moulting he always has pin feathers coming in.

I've had my cockatoo for about 4 months and when he moulted there were down feathers everywhere. I couldn't believe there were any left on the poor bird. He's also lost quite a few tail and flight feathers.
I think it's normal. All my birds moult like that and none of them are pluckers and they have beautiful feathers

If it is plucking you will see a little blood with the lost feathers.

Good to know because I think it means my husband's amazon is probably moulting, not plucking (he has a plucked mark on his chest, but it has a couple tiny green feathers on it now).
