Hi, the first 2 weeks have been spent making billy happy and settled. i'm getting to grips with what he like (and doesn't) and getting loads of advise off everybody i speak to but i get the expert answers off you lot on here.
Can you advise me on cleaning his cage. I've been told MILTON (the baby steraliser) as i don't have to wipe it off?
Also i've soaked some sprouts in boiling water for 24hours but only little sprout have appeared, should i be soaking for longer or do they go past their best and should they go soft as there are still hard?
Thanks Lydia and Billy

Good questions!

I clean our cages with Dawn dishwashing liquid. It's safe for animals and wildlife and very inexpesive. I used baby wipes for little messes.

As for sprouts...I have a sprouter and a batch usually takes 36 t 48 hours before they're sprouted and ready for our birds. I soak each batch (about 1/2 cup of seeds at a time) for 8-10 hrs then drain them and rise them every 8-12 hours untill most if the seeds have little sprouts. Our birds eat their sprouts before just about anything else. Ruby used to go steal them when she was still living with the breeder.

I was also advised by a vet that baby steriliser (a tiny tot) is excellent for all baby animals and adults alike.

I use it to mop the areas where the dogs sleep and also in Cals cage.

I dilute it about half a cap to a litre for the floor, and I use an old tupperware tub that is 2.2L for Cal. For this, I only put in less than half a cap just to be sure though. If I can smell it, I won't use it on her cage as of course, delicate lungs!!!

It is really nifty though and very cheap. A lot safer too I feel.
