- Timneh African Grey "Chaka Khan", Congo African Grey "Buddy", Sun Conure "Sunny", Grey cheek parakeets "Peeps," "Groucho", "Harpo and Tweekie" (paired) and Indian ringneck "Gandhi."
I belong to the Brotogeris Society and know a few breeders like myself and, yes, they are VERY difficult to breed in captivity. I had a wild caught breeder pair who gave me 2 females - I obtained 2 males and have been trying to breed them. Grey cheeks are related to canary wings and a great book about them is by Robby Harris (out of print though). Their personalities are unlike any birds I have known before - positively captivating! Once you've known a grey cheek, you will never forget them. I am attaching a few pics of some of mine - the screaming one is the wild caught male, Homer, who passed away last summer at the age of 21!!! Their normal life span is maybe 15.
