Peep, our gcc, came to us last year. He was returned to the breeder after only being with the first owner for a few months because the owner changed his/her mind and wanted a bigger bird.

From the start Peep was great. Stepping up and hanging out with me easily. He has warmed slowly to the whole family, besides my 22 year old son. They have a truce and it's comical to watch them. I think secretly they both really like one another.

The past few weeks Peep has really made great strides. He began eating pellets! He then began flying (came clipped and now has moulted and grown his feathers in) and is getting confident and more fun if possible!

Today he invited my 24 year old daughter to give him scritches! First time! She was totally honored.

We only have one little one at home, my 7 yr old daughter. She loves Peep and I'm very careful how I let them interact. She was bitten by a Rottweiler (she was ok but traumatized) some 4 years ago and has never warmed up to animals since.

The past few weeks Peep began dancing with her when she plays near his cage and has flown to her on a couple of occasions. She is very gentle with him and today he rode around on her shoulder for a short period of time.

I think they will be buddies in time. Will continue to be careful and supervise but she is bonding with him - so good to watch. :)

That sounds awesome :). Peep sounds like the gentle creature who will open up the world of animals to your younger daughter in a positive way. Great to hear.

Go Peep! Sounds like he's becoming the life of the party! The first owners lost out on a great bird, your gain!

GCC's are wonderful creatures indeed! Ours only recently discovered the joys of flight (he was never clipped, but for some reason didn't choose to fly, other than flight-assisted hops). Now that he's discovered how much fun it is, if he has a 4' distance to go, this journey will involve several complete laps around the living room, prior to landing at his intended destination. Of course, if possible, it will often also involve buzzing any of the larger birds that are sitting on their cages or our shoulders...this is something we're working to correct, before someone gets hurt!

Enjoy your little treasure!!
