Is there any safe mite and tick sprays for birds ? I have the "8 in 1 bird protection" that goes on the outside of the cage but I wasn't sure if it worked well if the bird went outside. Or is there anything else that is more effective ?

My advice would be that if your bird does have mites/ticks, take it to the vet, and use what they prescribe. If not, don't use anything. Like, if it's not broke, don't fix it. I've heard that those "bird protectors", are really formaldehyde, which can poison your bird, if exposed to it long enough.

She doesn't have mites I just wanted to make sure she wouldn't get them because of how much she goes outside. I've never heard that  that sounds horrible

I looked up the ingredient and it is the one in moth balls, looks like I'm taking it out and taking it back to the store
I don't know why they sell such things if it can harm the birds

I have written to a manufacturer about discontinuing making & selling them, and received a bogus reply about it's usefulness, and safety. BS! Thank you for taking it away from your birds environment.

I never thought it was bad for them. That's horrible they shouldn't sell things like that for birds if its made with things that are poisonous to them, but I guess big companies don't care because they make money and the people who don't look into it think its such a great thing , as I did before I asked here. There's many products like this out there that are "made for birds" when infact they can harm our poor birds. And most things like this are sold at places where people don't know much about birds. It's horrible in my opinion

Sorry for the mini rant

Great! Now I'm itching!

Grey, a long time ago, a drill sergeant told a bunch of recruits that all personal problems were taken care of by the chaplains.....

Best advice I can offer you.....

Glad you asked before something happened & you were trying to figure out why.....everybody doesn't always agree on all answers around here, but it would be a very rare occasion that somebody misled you...unless...they were relying on misinformation themselves and if that happens, there's usually somebody or several somebodies to correct the error or at least give you additional information.....

That's why I come here rather then asking someone who works at a store they either know nothing or make up something to make the company money. If I worked at a large company I would tell the truth rather then lie and possibly cause someone's pet danger or worse

Ivermectin is your best treatment against mites.
It is what the vets use.

It can be administered under the armpit of the wing, or behind the neck.
either way rest assured your bird will be fully protected with that product.

I use it on my 40+ birds, and wouldn't trust anything else.
