Kermit, ♀ GCC (Green Demon)
Kermit is 100% okay and well, but I had to board her due to some unexpected construction. We're hauling out of the house either tomorrow or Tuesday and staying in a hotel... and weirdly, no hotel would in our area would let us bring Kermit with us (but dogs are fine... don't ask, I don't get it either).

I boarded her at a local birdshop I have a lot of faith in so I know she's in good hands. But it's funny seeing all her stuff around the house and no parrot to go with them. I actually cried a little before I dropped her off & I'm not an easy crier. I keep getting teary eyed when I realize I won't get to share the morning with her tomorrow. I'm sure Kermit is having all sorts of birdie adventures without me. I'm hoping to have some time in my schedule to visit her during the week.

If you could, post some pictures of your conure friends? I think it would help. I love seeing everyone's birds. :gcc::orange:

Sorry to hear about your temporary separation from Kermit. I completely understand. She will be fine! It could be a good, 'wordly' experience for her too. Bring some of her favorite toys and treats when you visit :)

Here's Boomer wishing Kermit a fun and safe vacation (don't mind the ratty pajama, it's very comfy)!

Pewpew thinks everything will be just fine!

Thank you all. Your babies are super cute. I love those bright orange faces! & that cute little budgie <3 Budgies were the first parrots I owned and I love their sweet faces a lot.

I called to check on Kermit today. She seems to be doing okay. I asked if she was eating alright and they confirmed she was... apparently she likes the seed better than her pellets. But what parrot doesn't ? X) They'll be hiding the seed in her toys like I normally do so that's nice of them.

Thank you Odin ! He's a cute guy. He looks like he's all business (i.e. biting, chewing, screaming).

I guess I'll use this thread to share funny Kermit stories as I think of them. I know she's all of 10 miles away but I'm going to miss our morning antics and I need somewhere to share them.

I spent most of the morning with Kermit when I dropped her off. We drove to my grandmother's house first since it's not too far from the boarding place. My uncle was over which turned out to be awesome for Kermit. She's 2 years old and I think she's almost through puberty... I haven't noticed a ton of differences other than she really prefers men now. Human men. I'm okay in her opinion, but I can only be so good when there's boys around. Seriously, I've seen my father get away with so much more when he handles her compared to me. As you can imagine, it took all of 2 minutes for her to completely warm up to my uncle, settle in on his shoulder, preen him, and then guard his shoulder against ME when I went to take her off.

I take her to the petstore to get a light wing trim (had to be done since I'll be out of town soon and I don't want to hear the bird escaped while I'm away and can't do anything about it). She was a perfect angel, took to her toweling well, and the staff continued to handle this very sweet little bird. Of course... the 'staff' was a male, so of course she didn't mind one bit what he did to her.

Meanwhile I go to tell her goodbye and put my finger's next to the cage she was placed in. And she lunges at me ! No real bite behind it, it was just a warning blow, but you could tell she was pretty ticked at me.

GaleriaGila;; Yes that's exactly what it is ! Thank you for naming my ailment. When you've been woken up at dawn for 95% of all days for the last 2 years, and having breakfast with a small feathered demon, and having something cute to scritch, and getting screamed at... well you get used to it.

A small update not exactly related to Kermit. I didn't have a chance to call the shop today to check in on her (though I assume from a lack of calls from them, she's doing just fine). The construction workers, however, in the midst of trying to fix our plumbing discover a pretty massive patch of black mold. It's not related to our plumbing issue, actually; apparently the neighbor we share a wall with had a long-term leak and never really fixed the mold issue :/ And long story short, that massive patch of black mold has been in the walls not too far from Kermit... She had two seizures last December and January and I can't help but wonder if it was related at all. I ultimately found other potential causes in the house (an incense stick that missed my initial parrot-proofing in the enclosed bathroom). The vet didn't comment anything in a gram stain when I brought her in though, so maybe we were just "lucky" it wasn't that much worse.

Wow, kudos to you. The longest I've been separated from Skittles is five hours and that was when I was with a friend when she had to go to the ER.

There have been several times, after the 'three hour mark', I start to go into "conure withdrawal". I've actually teared up in the store on several occasions when its gone past that mark.

This is Skittles saying Kermit is gonna be fine...

And this is him as a 'bouncer' saying "go away, this is for conures only!"

And this one is just cause...I want too. Not bragging or anything, I swear.

Skittles has always been such a model. Thank you. I especially love that middle picture haha.

I visited Kermit today and she was soso happy to see me. Poor thing seemed a little spooked by the environment (I assume no one wants to be surrounded by 30+ parrots 24-7, not even another parrot). I played with her for at least 45 minutes and she seemed a lot happier by the end of it. I couldn't check how well she's been eating because they'd just changed her paper. Hopefully she's doing ok... it's probably a big reduction in attention for her. It was really interesting to be in the middle of a flock of parrots. Many of them wanted to hang out with me since I'd clearly won Kermit's approval... or they were probably jealous of the scritches she got. On my way out I said hi to a military macaw that had been eyeing me the whole time. It was my first time trying to interact with a large parrot and I was little intimidated, so of course I got a warning bite LOL. His beak could wrap around the forearm I was offering to him o__o I'll stick with the little guys.

Thank you Nico ! <3

I had a chance to visit Kermit today and she seemed much happier from the last time. She was obviously at ease in her environment and didn't mind the 5 cockatoo's periodic screaming (you really don't appreciate how loud a cockatoo is until several have a screaming match). She was super cute and flirty and had a good time impressing all the employees with her tricks (and biting a few for funsies, because she's a naughty parrot). I brought some new toys in case she was bored and the store gave me a stick of spray millet to put in there. She hasn't had one in a while so hopefully she enjoys the treat. She did scream when I left, but at least it wasn't so heart-wrenching this time. She's doing well.

Kermit is home !! She was so happy to leave -- she fluttered towards me the moment the lady brought her out. It was a little hard since her wings were clipped. Then she tried two more times until she was in my hands. She got a little carsick on the ride back, but I think it was because she was so excited (she kept going towards the corner nearest to me).

I feel like I have a new parrot. I was anticipating her to be louder since she was next to 5 cockatoos in her stay, but so far so good. She's been extra sweet and extra cuddly and hasn't turned away an offered hand once. She hasn't bit anyone once yet. I scrubbed down her cage & rearranged everything thouroughly and she's been very curious of her environment. She's playing with her toys more and seems so at ease. I want to know where MY conure went. The brat, the dictator, the one who sits like a perch potato for most of the day. I'm sure THAT conure will be back in a few days but I'm enjoying it.

Glad to read you're both together again :) Conure withdrawal is over :orange:
