Wheatley - 4 year old Green Cheek Conure
Wheatley wants to know what the deal with the bathroom mirror is. Everytime he tries to fly through it, this other pesky bird is always flying STRAIGHT towards him! He tries to fly through the mirror every day, but he's always intercepted by that other bird!

Fortunately, this means that he never smacks into the mirror. I wonder how long before he will give up on trying to fly past his own reflection, haha!

Every day since I got him, I hold him up to mirrors and windows and tap on the glass so that he can see it's solid. When I hold him up to a window, he just bangs on it repeatedly with his beak, which is obviously the thing he's supposed to do since I always do it!

What do your birds think about mirrors and windows?

Kevin tends to walk into them. She keeps bonking her little noggin.

All the closet doors in our apartment are mirrored, so there's no way to avoid them. Ralph was at first annoyed at the "other" parrot he could see in the mirror, and would try to attack it. Now though, he's fascinated by his own reflection and seems to recognize that he's seeing himself, and not some other parrot. I always tell him "That's Ralph-- that's you! See what a pretty bird you are!" so now he sometimes says "pretty bird" and "Ralph" when he sees his reflection. :)

Some of my birds realized they were seeing their reflection. Some never did. Some seemed to understand glass, some seemed to think it was water.
