Parrots
Binky my 11 month old quaker, brought him home July 11,2014. Olly my o.w.a is 8 years old.brought him home,sept.3rd. :-)
I was having empty nest syndrome, and no parrots don't take the place of my human children, but I am so in love with these 2 boys! I have a neurological disorder so I'm unable to "work" 4 of my children don't live close,1 does, one passed away.but I now feel like a mommy to little ones again, like I have a purpose...I know it may sound silly.I enjoy heating up veggies for breakfast,etc..baths,playing with,etc.etc..Monday I'm going to go buy PVC pipes,elbows,couples,etc...and make them a activity center,a perch and a shower perch.can't wait and eventually over time I plan to make one of my guest rooms into bird Disney world! :) the guest bath too! Lol...I love being a parront! I've had parakeets, over the years but never parrots and now I can devote lots and lots of time to these fellers :) we are lucky to have each other...also wanted to add that I research every day so I can give them the best possible care...if you read this..thank you..sorry so long winded.

I don't think that is "dumb". You're blessed and so are your new babies for having each other. I'm no expert, but, I think what you're doing is rather healthy. Whoever told you that's dumb is the one who needs their head examined!
Sorry, being so blunt.

I have to agree,it's definitely not dumb. My birds are my babies too. My kids are 22 and 20,both out on their own too, so I totally get it. I need to have a purpose as well, being a natural caregiver, the fids seriously help the empty nest syndrome and give me someone to care for! So don't worry, you're not alone! ;)

I also live alone...my 2 xhildren are out on thier own..my 18 year old son is 8 hours away, my daughter is only 5 blocks away. I have a dog (black lab) and a kitty and recently afopted an Amazon named Gus...I love this bird!!! He is awesome...doesnt step up to my hand but will with a stck/perch...gives me kisses constantly!!!! My pet family gives me a purpose...I lost my husband 2 years ago and I am a homebody now...and nothing feels better than coming home and all 3 of my babies/pets want to greet me :)

Olly will only step on my hand in certain situations, but soon as I put a "stick" in front of him,he steps on it.lol.its funny almost like his natural instinct says..oh,a stick I HAVE to step up! Cute,I've only had him since wed.I love him though,I've gotta watch myself from spoiling him and Binky(my quaker).made my coffee quietly this morning and tiptoed around as to not wake the babies yet.lol..loving it

When my youngest of 2 boys moved out I got really depressed and felt like I had no purpose. On top of that, hubby is a firefighter and gone a lot. So I was in a big empty house all alone. Enter one little GCC! Then, 6 months later, ANOTHER GCC. Now my nest is complete, lol. I, too, am so happy being a parront! They are such an important part of our lives, we can't imagine NOT having 2 little messy, feisty creatures in our house!

Dear Michelle, My 3 kids are grown as well.Iam devoted to my 2 birds and dog as well. I love my husband but he's not to big on feelings. My pets are my outlet. I understand completely. Your not silly at all. Blessings Bonita :rainbow1:

How wonderful that you (and we) all have each other! My two birds have become the most fulfilling part of my life in my home (aside from my husband). I love them so much and enjoy the constant entertainment and company ;)

Not dumb at all! I had parakeets and cockatiels years ago and loved them. I had 4 kids at home and I gave my fids up since I didn't have enough time in the day to devote to them all. I knew I would have birds again...it wasn't long after my youngest moved out that I got Sassy and Cisco.:D
