Wheatley - 4 year old Green Cheek Conure
Over the weekend, I had a bit of a water disaster in my condo that caused a lot of damage to my floors and ceilings. A restoration crew came in and ripped up the carpets, and started spraying something called "Microban" that prevents mold and mildew. The guy spraying it claims it was safe for animals, but I moved Wheatley anyway. Unfortunately they started spraying before I could move him, so he had some exposure, but it didn't appear to make him immediately sick. I read up on Microban and they claim it's been tested for animal safety, but another contractor who was working in my condo today warned me that Microban is not safe for small animals like birds, rodents and fish. It may be linked with long term damage such as cancer and lung diseases. Wheatley still isn't showing any signs of illness from exposure, but I think I may have the vet take a look just to be sure.

It may well be safe, but I found that there was little information online about whether or not Microoban is safe for parrots, so I just wanted to post this to let people know to be cautious around products containing Microban.

I had some experience with this when my condo had some ice damning from a huge snow. They wanted to put something down like what you are talking about but I just said no do not do it. I moved after all the repairs anyway. Can't be too safe with our world full of chemicals.
