Hi
I have just purchased a lovebird and when she arrived I noticed she has a metal band on her leg. She is uncomfortable with it and keeps biting it as does the other bird she is with. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to remove it safely.

Thanks

We had ours removed by or avian vet. That's the only way I would recommend.

My 14-year-old lovebird suddenly started really acting like her band was bothering her, too, so I took her to my avian vet who removed it without incident in seconds (they have a special little tool to do that without harming the leg). I'd get a professional to do it; too much can go wrong if you follow the do-it-yourself method. Also, with the vet doing it, you have a record of it being removed and why. My vet even signed my receipt that she removed band no. XXX and dated it in case I ever needed that (some places require birds be permanently identified).

Thanks for all the advice. I will take her to my vet.
