Hey all,
I met a little adorable Meyers parrot last night. She was SO sweet! I almost left a deposit for her, but my husband talked me out of it since it wasn't very well planned.

I loved her size, and her little noises she was making. She seemed playful but a bit more docile than my Kyo (which would be great for a second bird since Kyo is so hyper).

I have no other experience with pois, and I'm hoping she won't sell fast… but what are people with Meyers thoughts on them? I haven't stopped thinking about her since I left the store.

I think that's a good one for you Sarah :). I'd love to have a Meyer's! Poicephalus are generally speaking, more independent and not quite as active as a GCC. If you structure their life from the beginning with independence, you won't have a problem. A female might be easier too, after maturity.

My Ruppell's parrot Griffin is a Poi, but is extremely active and extroverted. He's like a little monkey, looking for trouble at any chance he gets. But that's not typical of Pois, but as you know, there is always individual personality. He's super independent (actually he's semi wild now, but that's a different story), and he is best friends with my Pionus. That's another thing about Griffin that is un-Poi-like. They usually don't get along with other birds. He and my other Poi don't get along.

I think a Meyer's will typically be less of a handful than having 2 GCC's for example. I know you're concerned about that, giving attention to both. They're naturally independent, unless you make a point of "making" one clingy, but that's not the species natural inclination.

Meyer's and all Poicephalus are about as inclined to be hands on cuddly (or not) as a conure. Some like my Robin will let you cuddle and touch him anywhere on his body, others like Griffin are hands off. In other words, some are and some aren't.

I think you need to go back to the store...

I've been mulling over this idea for weeks. I keep going to see her. The store she is at is going out of business, so I may keep my eyes open for if they have a sale. She was the first birdie that's really stuck out to me since the senegal we played with in another place (I'm now friends with his mom).

I doubt we will end up getting a second one but I have to say she is really tugging my heart-strings. I really enjoy talking to her (I hope it's a girl!).

It's great to see you're not being impulsive. Only you know personally if adding more animals now is a good decision or not. I can definitely see how a cute Meyer's is tempting!

All of the Meyer's I have met have been so calm and sweet!

Then you must have only met ones that had yet to go though puberty :D. I absolutely love the Pois, but they all have their special kind of Sennie-tude as Mark calls it!

Julie tells the truth. I love the Pois, but it of them, our grey and mac they are the most unpredictable and most likely to bite for no reason I can figure.
