I can think of no better gift for all my friends here on Parrot Forums than the gift of music. Music has been one of the brightest joys of my life, right from age 14 to now 53 years later. I share with you all some tracks from various Brigands records that are in general release. Not Xmas music, but pirate music.

Oh, how lovely! Thank you, Al!

Merry Christmas to you too and here's a couple of vids of my favourite 'pirate' group.

These guys are a group of mates from Port Isaac in Cornwall. I just love their sound.

Merry Christmas all! :)

Thank you Al and Trish! Al, The Brigands are VERY fine musicians indeed, and Trish I am going to be humming that Mingulay Boat Song all day!

I would LOVE to see them all performing on the same bill as Brisbane's very own Murphy's Pigs, which is headed up by my hubby's good friend "Gunner" Graham (he's the bearded chap out front playing the banjo!) The craic would be tremendous!!

As their motto says, they're "Celtic by Nature, Pigs by Choice" :D

Omigoodness! Why have I never heard of these guys before? They're *excellent*! Thanks for sharing!

PS. I used to play the banjo, but was persuaded to swap it for a grey mare mumbledy-mumble years ago. As it happened, I got on better with the mare than I did with the banjo. Sometimes, though, me fingers itch to play it again just one more time. :(

Thank you ladies, I know all those tunes, it very interesting to hear how they differ from the renditions played on the East Coast of US.

A note on the Mingulay Boat song, that not many know. The Isle of Mingulay is off the coast of Scotland. The Crown determined that it was not worth supplying the small population there with food etc, and deemed the island to be de-populated. The song is about that, and the longing for the now gone homeland. It remains unpopulated to this day. Scotland is full of songs of that nature.

Thank you for sharing Al, Martina and Trish. My Irish blood is so stirred up that I can't stop dancing the Jig. Bertie and Ellie think that I have 'lost the plot', or 'my cheese just slid off the cracker', or I'm 'one stubby short of a six-pack'....lol

I thought read you take one of your parrots to your shows for authenticity.....I heard no parrots, this makes no sense.....I have a confuse.

kickass pirate music though....

Just two more favourites of mine to share. Hope you enjoy! :)

A waulking song, sung by women as they did the repetitive work of 'waulking' the tweed cloth (waulking is banging the wet cloth against a wooden table to felt it into stouter fabric).

Sinead O'Connor's version of "Óró 'Sé do bheatha 'bhaile", an Irish rebel song. There's lots of versions, but I like this one best.

Salty comes to some shows that are close and of course when we fly somewhere for a show, he stays home wit his mommy. He can handle like 3 hrs in the van before he gets crazy.

Hmmm, my Western Scottish colors are showing as the coastlines and music are near and very similar... As is the joy for the shared music...

Thanks Al for setting the Thread in place and the continual expansion of musical joy!

A Very Merry Christmas to you and yours my many friends!

I love performers like these who keep these traditional styles alive Trish, they're good for the soul and they're better than a lot of the overpaid and over-exposed youngsters who wouldn't know what real music was if it fell on them!

You'll also be pleased to know that the Pigs are gigging again (COVID willing!) in the New Year. They're playing at Tweed Heads in March and hubby and I will be making every effort to get there!

Your welcome 'Boats. You're ear does not deceive you, all of my offerings are indeed Scottish in feel ( though are all original tunes), as it's one of my favorite styles. I am extremely lucky the last 18 years to being playing music with my 2 sons, performing and playing music that we love.

Happy Holidays to all our friends on ParrotForums!

Ooooh! I could *murder* a nice Bundaberg Rum and Coke right about now! :D

Al, what a fantastic thread, thank you so much for this! I really enjoyed it.
Thank you also to Trish and Mart for adding to the pleasure!

I hope everyone's holidays are filled with joy and love.
