Merlin - scaley beak?

Merlin has always had a bit of a scaley beak, and so we thought it was just fine, but it has been getting a bit more noticable. I rub his beak for him and last night he had a bit that actually flaked off.

Gonna upload a few pictures and see what you guys think?

Since I'm going vets tomorrow I'll probably bring him in anyway, but if that's not possible, just suggestions perhaps?

nuts beak looks like this, at times, but once the flakes get scratched off, her beaks fine for a few months, its a little alarming but i think its part of the way the beak grows, as the shape stays even

Yeah my ammies have this too at times and the vet told me its just like our a cats nails how they grow in layers and the tops ones come off to help it stay smooth and strong underneith. or something like that lol.

Puck's beak looked flaky but it got filed off (eek) when the vet trimmed it. Seems to be coming back though, and she didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about. Maybe he's due for a beak grooming?
