Merlin was perched on the top of a door and when someone came in after me they slammed the door shut and Merlin let out this almighty squawk and had his foot stuck and just hung there panicking and screaming and it was horrible. I don't think anythings broken as he's walking around on his good foot and his bad foot isn't 'unusual' either. Ive felt up and down his leg and toes and he hasn't let me know anything hurts and he seems okay in himself, chirping and walking and stuff. My heart is going at ten to the dozen however and I'm shaking and almost hysterical. My poor baby. :(

Aagh! My heart started pounding just reading your post! How scary and THANK GOODNESS Merlin came out, apparently unscathed.

Phew!

Yesterday, our conure, Franklin was playing on top of his cage. His toe got caught in a tiny space between the roof and the cage wall...I saw him struggling and at first didn't think much of it because he's so acrobatic...but as I investigated closer, I saw his poor toe stuck! I was able to pull up on the roof and his toe came out no problem...but scared me none the less.

Now go give Merlin some more lovin's and a favorite treat!

Once again...Phew! :D

Awww! Poor Merlin! Glad to hear he seems ok. He definately wants some extra treats and lovins!

Doors are so dangerous. I would put him up while you are moving. I installed magnetic door stops on all my doors, its my Merlins favorite place to sit. I'm glad he isn't hurt badly. Kisses from us. :)

Oh my heart just sank! Im so glad it was just a foot and not something worse! Poor baby! He will Soooo need extra lovin from momma today...so take a deep breath! whew! Im glad you both are ok! ;)

You're positive it was just his foot right? I worry about internal damage... poor baby!! :(

awww poor merlin an tops of doors is nuts fav place!! hope all is well, and if his behaving normal, it might have been the shock of door closing

I'm relieved he's okay!!!! That's insanely scary!

I had the same reaction as Nakiska! Poor birdie =(

I don't think I could stand to have birds if I didn't have rehab experience. it's such a huge comfort to feel confident that I can assess broken bones and splint them properly, even though I thankfully haven't had to with my pets. I dunno how tame pet parrots react, but all the birds I've worked with don't even react to messing with broken limbs, except to be freaking out about being handled in general. I've handled some severely injured animals (like finches I've had to cut their foot off because it was hanging by a thread of skin, and they don't act any more upset than a finch I'm just sticking an ID band on). So keep an eye on the foot and how he's holding it for a couple days to be sure.
