I have been caring for one my mother's cats for three weeks now while she is out of town. He has a large open abscess so I've been treating it. He hangs with us but if he is out the birds have to stay in their cages. At night he stays in my office with the door closed. He's not allowed to roam freely without Husband or I being there. He has a record for jumping out of trees and catching birds mid air. He's been very well mannered staying with us.

So the first week the cat was at our house Buddy starts making some new sounds and now meows daily. We crack up because we think he is jealous. He has suddenly started announcing "Buddy is a good boy. Especially when the cat is sitting next to us. So we've been using this jealousy to our advantage to coax him to talk because he can talk but just doesn't want to.

Nice of you to care for your mom's cat within a mixed menagerie. Sounds like you have a solid containment strategy but keep up your guard. It figures your Amazon picked up the new vocabulary; such great linguists!

This is a riot! I love how birds react to other pets. LOL! Once we got our dog, all our fids wanted to do was boss her around. One says "Bella Out", the other tells her to "Go Lie Down" all the time and another barks at her. :D

When my mom was alive,we had a cat,and the cat would always bug mom when mom was eating..one day the cat came in to the living room and walked around Smokeys house < The TAG I had> with his tail in the air..Smokes was on her roof top watching the cat...leaned over and grabbed a beakful of fur..then told the cat.."DAMN CAT!!...GO!!!"

The first Amazon I ever met was when I was in high school and my family went to a cook out at my father's supervisor's house. The bird's name was Paco and they had two dachsunds, Terry and Toto. Paco would call "Terry!! Toto!!! Come heeeeere!!!" They'd run to his cage and Paco would shell peanuts and drop them for the dogs. I loved watching them and got the biggest laugh from it.

Buddy also has impeccable timing. He has copied my laugh and it never fails, he will laugh at the most inappropriate time like when I was being stern with Canelo demanding he get the tub and he just sat, head pointing away from me but his eyes cutting to me refusing to go. Buddy starts laughing and I couldn't stop from laughing. Bath time was delayed till later lol.

I wish Gloria would learn to meow. We adopted her in January at the tender age of 30 and she is living in a house with 3 cats. They're pretty quiet so I guess she doesn't get to hear them enough. She does bark however. I'm guessing her previous family had a dog.
