Several of the other forums I belong to have global maps identifying the location of forum members.

This allows for members to identify close members for face to face interactions, if they chose, or to find members in areas while vacationing.

Participation is always voluntary.

Is such a map possible through this server and is there sufficient interest in adding one?

Thanks,

Forbey:green:

I've seen it done pretty easily with Google Earth before. Users would just post their zip codes to a list and someone would periodically update it. There may be some better ways to self-update as well.

Sounds like a great idea:)

Would be interesting to see on a map where abouts we all are :)

Everybody who joins Parrot Forums has that ability to list their area, but most elect not to such as you have. If you want folks to know where you are located, just go into your preferences and make the changes. If you check my location, you could almost pinpoint my house hahahahahaha. But then again, most folks aren't like me and prefer that no one knows where they are located. So putting up a map isn't going to change that.

The 'Internet Bonsai Club' uses a Google Group map the has markers that appear to identify members and/or guest as they appear on-line. It has a link, visible only to members, that identifies who is on line and when they are on the globe.

The member list also has the option for members to list their city, state & country so that a sort can be conducted by proximity.

I'm pretty open about where I am. But I like the idea of a map because you can visualise where everyone is, rather than just read X person is in Y states (and for us non American's, well, states can be anywhere for all I know :p)

But I like the opt in idea of it, rather than everyone signing up knowing your location. Opt in, be part of the map, show your location and look at all the pretty lights showing you where your fellow parronts are scattered throughout the globe :)

I certainly would not go for it....

Too many dicey and dodgy people all over the internet, and who knows WHAT their intentions are !!!!

BEEN THERE... DONE THAT.... WORN THE T-SHIRT

I personally wouldn't participate if that were a feature...I'm a bit paranoid though, and even my Facebook profile doesn't list the actual city I live in. There's too many weirdos on the Internet, and although most of us here have good intentions, you just never know what could happen....
