We have a new addition to our flock! Say hello to Rue (pronounced Roo), a (roughly) 6 year old female pearl cockatiel. :yellow1::40:

I was originally planning on getting another cockatiel when I turned 30 in March of 2019, but last week, husband's coworker saw from his social media that we have cockatiels and asked if we would be interested in adopting his bird, who is rarely let out of her cage and hasn't been played with for some time. She used to have another cockatiel buddy but it passed away 2-3 years ago so she has been alone ever since.

After seeing a picture of her, we decided to adopt her!! They weren't sure about her gender but I am now positive she is female based on her age and markings. I have wanted a female for a long time -- my 7 year old male cockatiel lost his mate earlier this year so they are sort of in the same situation, both have lost a companion.

So yesterday we traveled to coworker's house and she was in a sad, small cage that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months(maybe years?), her diet was cheap Walmart bird seed, and it looked like she hasn't had a bath in ages. So the name I picked for her sort of fits -- Rue is a character from the Hunger Games (book/film) who lived in really bad conditions in her district until she was picked to be a tribute for the games.

So far Ember doesn't seem that interested but Boo is very receptive to her. He is spending all of his time at the far right corner of his cage where her cage is next to his side. In time, I hope they become a pair and can make each other happy.

Hello pretty Rue! Sounds like she’ll fit in well and hoping that she and Boo get along :)

Welcome Beautiful Rue!
It sounds like this was meant to be, I am so happy she has joined your flock.
Fingers crossed that she and Boo become a couple:)

Rue is beautiful! And underlines the common neglect that happens to do many birds....I'm so thankful the person realized they weren't doing the best and rehomed her to you,!! I wish more people who were keeping butds in this sort of forgotten state would give them up to better homes. I can't wait to her more about her as she blossoms!

Another little Xmas-miracle: lonely bird(s) no longer alone and life looks up again. :)

Thanks everyone!! Her first night went very well and she is being more vocal and chirping when she hears my other two chirping. She has the cutest chirping voice, so sweet and precious. So far, so good!

Boo is beginning to revert back to his old 'I have a mate and don't need people anymore' ways as he used to be with Peach, he was just finally starting to come around and let me pet him :( but now he is pretty protective of her already, he has moods where he is lunging at me and picking fights with Ember through the cage bars and screaming at everyone, so.... I'm a bit sad to see Boo like this but in time I hope he calms down. I want to work on gaining her trust before I put the two of them together.

My Ta-dah and Neptune went through a love protect mode but thankfully they back to love me plus love each other so hope that's what happens for you. She is just such a beautiful girl! So glad you have her now

Welcome sweet Rue!

Is Rue tamed? Do she step up or are you starting from square 1 like I am with North?

Congratulations Jackie! Rue is a beautiful girl :). I just saw you have a pastelface too now!

She is not tame, but I think at one point she used to be because she is not fearful or aggressive in a way that I've seen with parent raised bids, no cowering or hissing or anything but yes I am having to start at square one with her so glad I am not the only one!! lol

Yes I do, Ember is my pastel guy :) he's the sweetest thing ever and I am so glad to have at least one bird who loves pets and cuddling with us.

Welcome, Rue, you're a lovely girl. Sweet name, it fits her. I hope she finds a lasting bond with her new buddies.

Today I gave all three birds a bath. I let Rue see both boys getting sprayed with warm water from the spray bottle and enjoying it first -- they like to open their wings up and bend down and get into it -- then misted her. She didn't love it but didn't hate it. Wasn't fearful of the water but didn't open wings or anything but it was a great for her first bath with us. I'll continue bathing a couple times a week and hopefully this will help greatly with her feather quality.

Bienvenue to you La Rue ... you certainly have landed in the right place!

Rue's a beauty, and YOU are a HERO!
This thread is bringing a huge smile to my face.
Thank you for sharing this dainty little angel.
Her expression is so precious... nervous, excited, curious...

She is absolutely GORGEOUS! Thank you for taking her into your flock - hopefully, in time, Rue and Boo will become best buddies! Hoping Boo calms down a bit as well :)
