Meet Dexter, our new 18 month old Scarlet macaw who was turned in to a bird shop a month ago. Apparently the previous owner had also gotten a puppy at the same time as this guy, but the puppy got to stay and Dexter was ousted. She had told the bird shop that she was undergoing some financial hardships, but I believe there's more to the story than this.

Dexter came into the bird shop with the name 'Donald Trump', but as you can see that name did not stick! Dexter is an absolute luvbug, and will go to anyone offering for him to step up.

I've never had a clipped bird before, so this experience is new to me. Hoping he'll be able to learn what wings are for once his flight feathers eventually grow in. He'd been clipped before fledge, so we shall see.

His new cage arrives today, so I think he'll be a lot happier once he has new digs. Right now he hangs out all day long on one of our java tree floor stands.

Well shoot. The images didn't come through. I'll try that again.

Congratulations on adopting Dexter! I can see why you changed the name...ahem...lol!
I use flickr for my images now, and it is easy to upload and share.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding flickr. That did the trick!

He's a real handsome guy! I've very glad you changed his name. He's very lucky to have you.

Pretty awesome I got Timneh the same way only they had said my love bug wasn't friendly. VEry beautiful bird you have there.

Welcome to you, Dexter, and your flock!

Whoa, I recognize the store from second image, been there many times! Birds on stands in room to the right of bamboo-type wall/glass! (won't post because your location is purposely vague) Fun place, great employees!

You're absolutely spot on! Dexter is my 4th bird from there, 3 of which were either abandoned there (left bird in his travel cage by the store's door during the night) or returned for one reason or another.
