Hey, all!

Just wanted to introduce the newest member of my family, Maya! I just adopted her yesterday, free of charge from someone who only wanted to be sure she was going to a good home. So far she's settling in quite well. She is a complete sweetheart, and she's already begun talking and whistling up a storm!

(The whistling aggravates poor Bixby to no end. For some reason he has always detested whistling, no matter who the offender. Maya, however, simply doesn't care. Lol! She seems to be wearing him down, though. Ha!)

They're remaining separated until I can get her checked out by an avian vet, but I'm really looking forward to seeing their interactions once they get to hang out together. (After a gradual acclimation process, of course.) From their body language, they both already seem very eager to meet.

Anyhow, here's a pic of Maya on her playstand:

Awwww congrats, Stephen! She is gorgeous! (I love that stand also! :) )

I'm sure once she settles in and shows to be free of health issues they'll be buddies. :) And maybe once they met he can explain his strong dislike of whistling to her ;)

How old is she? :D

What a LOVELY girl!! Welcome to the wonderful world of red-head ekkies, while they can be a handful I think they are worth it. SHE will have you and Bixby in line in no time!:D:p

WO-HOO, Stephen!!! :D Mrs. Bixby, aka Maya looks like she made herself right at home!

I am so happy for all of you!!! :D She's quite stunning that young Miss! ;)

What?!! :D A Mrs. Bixby!!
Stephen, BIG congratulations!! So happy for you. Maya is absolutely beautiful. What subspecies? Hard to tell by the pic, but she looks big for an SI. I can't tell on my ipad if she has the blue eye ring. Regardless, Bixby is a lucky young man :) as are you and your family.

Edit: I just saw you said Solomon Island ;)

I too have given up expensive (perfectly good) birds for free (for those who say it doesn't happen!)... Most important was that they went to a home I knew was right :)

Stephen, you toad! You never told us matrimony was in the air! Congratulations to the happy couple from Barney, Madge, Dominic and the Lovies. Sending joyful squawks in celebration of their connubials. :D :D :D

BEAUTIFUL girl there. Very stunning. I always feel the Eclectus parrots are head turners. Everyone notices when an Eclectus is brought into the room.

Love the name of the thread. I was thinking maybe you were introducing Bill Bixby's wife. LOL.

In your picture she looks like she is settling in nicely.

Saaayyyy whhhhhhhaaatttt?!?!? Oh Bixby is one lucky dude!!!! Look at GORGEOUS Miss Maya!!!

I'm sure HE'll be the one whistling once he sees HER!! Haha

I am SO HAPPY for you and for Bixby....and the Mrs. ;) That's excellent news. I'm glad you took her.

This makes me smile you don't even know, glad I was able to find her a great home!!! And if you haven't noticed yet sometimes when she whistles she whistles I love you lol..

WOW! I'm thrilled for all of you!!! BreakinNews, I'm sorry you had to give up your beautiful girl, I always admire people who make the hard decisions and put the pets best interest first. It's easy to see she has had excellent care and I know that will continue.

Bixby, look at you, Buddy!!! What a lucky boy!

Stephen, what a gorgeous pair of Ekkies. Give Bixby a little time and I'll bet he'll be whistling at or with his new friend!

Maya is beautiful! I think once she's done with her quarantine, you'll have a hard time keeping Bixby away;)

Stephen, Maya is gorgeous! I am so excited for you all:)
BreakinNews, I am so sorry you had to give up this beautiful; girl, but hope it helps that she has gone to such a fantastic new home:)

Very beautiful! Mango said if Mr . Bixby don't take a liking to her, give him a call!
Never saw a parrot drooling like he is right now, :32:.
Congrats on the purrrty burrrdy:D!

Thanks, Ash! That stand also came from her prior home. John (BreakinNewz) wanted to be sure that she would be comfortable in her new home.

If Bixby explains his dislike of whistling to her, I hope she'll share the info with me! Hahaha!

Maya is around 2 years old. She's got a year on Bixby!

What a LOVELY girl!! Welcome to the wonderful world of red-head ekkies, while they can be a handful I think they are worth it. SHE will have you and Bixby in line in no time!:D:p

Haha! Thank you, Laura! And who better qualified to welcome me to this wonderful world than you, a keeper of multiple red-head ekkies! If anyone would know, it's you!

Thank you, Wendy!!! Not only for what you just posted, but also for making me aware of the opportunity to welcome this beautiful ekky into my home and for all of the wonderful advice that followed. You do realize that makes you the official Godmother, right?

AWWWW she's so cute! :D Congratulations! She looks exactly like my old Solomon Island Eckie, Sai (R.I.P.)

Haha poor poor Bixby.. ;)

Thank you, Julie! Maya is indeed an SI. I'm not sure whether or not Maya is big for an SI, as my only supposed SI (Bixby) turned out to be a red-sided (possible cross), but I can tell you that she is significantly smaller than Bixby, despite having a year on him. She weighs in at 375 grams. (As opposed to Bixby's average of 425.)

Giving up a good, healthy bird for free, as you and John have done, shows a deep concern for your fid's well being. It is an admirable and selfless act.

As for your query regarding Maya's eye rings, I got this pic (managed at a severely awkward angle! Haha) just for you:

She's gorgeous, congrats!

Thanks, Karen! So is your Zoe! How is she doing?

Stephen, you toad! You never told us matrimony was in the air! Congratulations to the happy couple from Barney, Madge, Dominic and the Lovies. Sending joyful squawks in celebration of their connubials. :D :D :D

Hahaha! Thank you! (And Barney, Madge, Dominic and the Lovies, too!)

Dearest Trish! This was almost as much a surprise to me as to all of you! This time last week, if you'd told me there would be another bird in my home the following Monday I might have inquired as to what brand of pharmaceuticals you were sampling! Lol! I wasn't going to look for another bird for maybe another few years? This all came literally out of nowhere, but she immediately stole my heart upon meeting her! I just knew I was looking at the newest member of my household! :D
