I love witnessing when a bird instantly bonds with a person, it just does something to your heart

I bought this 6 month old male cockatiel for breeding on Wednesday. He came from a breeder friend of mine.

He is semi-tame and reminds me sooooo much of Dexter(Num Nums' dad)
I've been trying to think of a name but came up with nothing that fit until this morning.

As my daughter Sarah walked into the room this morning, he instantly flew to her and landed on her shoulder. He is clipped so it was quite the struggle for him to fly to her some 15 feet and upwards to land there.

I said to Sarah, "wow, he bites me, but loves you, look at him he's like a magnet with you"....so we named him Magnet.

He has not left Sarah's side in 2 hours, she's currently watching a movie in the bedroom.

for those of you who might be wondering about quarantine, Magnet came from a set of parents that I sold my breeder friend last year, and have since been tested for the 4 majors....so this really worked out very well!

here is Sarah and Magnet

NNNAAAAWWW!!!! Magnet is BEAUTIFUL, Beth...but you know what? Your daughter is a knock-out! What a stunning girl!!!! Better watch out, you'll have the "boys" a-knocking in no time.

What a couple of cuties! You can tell he really loves her!

Magnet is beautiful, as is your stunning daughter:) He looks so happy sitting there with her;)

That's what they called it love at first sight......That's what happened when we got Peaches back, I bred him several years ago and he came back to me. He flew to my partner and that was the end of that.....Peaches now gives me beautiful babies now and still flies to my partner.... :)

Magnet seems to be quite the cuddle bug, he flew onto my shoulder when Sarah was in the bedroom.

she got up and came over to me saying "don't touch him mom!".....(she's worried he will bond with me rather than her)
Sarah went to have him step up onto her finger and he bit her.
she looked at Magnet and said "traitor".....now she was sort of joking, but this has happened so many times when we get a new bird.....I can't explain it.

I prompted Sarah to encourage him to step up, which Magnet did, and he seemed quite content with her.
then she placed him on the cage, and then he flew back to me....uhhh, no, go to Sarah!

When Dave(my hubby) came in he wanted Magnet to step up, and he bit him too.

When Magnet was on Sarah, I asked Magnet to step up, and he did very willingly, and never bit me.

Most times when a bird initially bonds with Sarah, they change their minds and bond with me instead. I don't look for them to bond with me, quite the opposite when Sarah is involved, I stay away or mind my own business, but for some reason they eventually come to me....maybe I was a bird in my past life?

....maybe I was a bird in my past life?

Tweet...tweetweeeetle....tweedletweet. <-- Now if you understood that part, then yes, you had to have been a bird in your prior life. :54:

In English: Poor Sarah, she must be bummed. :(

she was a little bit(probably more than she was letting on), but honestly, this has happened with Flare, Kahlua, Safari,Halo, Angus, and Num Num.

she doesn't put in the hours like I do,(she's 11) and I really don't blame her.
she does the first few days, then it wares thin very quickly, and they are quickly forgotten, and only spends time with them when they need to be fed.
But in her defence I must say she is awesome with birds, a true natural :D

Beth, They are both so very cute.
However, I am here to address the huge problem before us like a giant pink elephant in the room that everyone is so politely skirting!!!!!!!

ANOTHER Bird???? Really, Beth!!! It's time we banned you from contacting friends with birds, Pet stores, Rescues and any other place you may run into a feathered fid that may steal your heart!!!

I am not just doing this for your own good, but for the good of all of us other bird owners in the world. Your bird hoarding is really cutting into us being able to find birds!!!!

Soon your breeding pairs will dominate the world and I am on to your evil plan of avian world domination!!!

So, in closing, STEP AWAY FROM THE BIRD!!!

:D:D:D:D

P.S. If you see me in canada, you had better check my pockets, I may have Tie Dye!!!:p:p:p

Another bird?? Beth, you DO have MBS! Multiple Bird Syndrome. :) As a fellow "sufferer", I recognized it right away!

Awww, very sweet, and Magnet looks so content and happy on your daughter's shoulder.

Our tiel goes to everyone in the house, but he particularly likes me. ;):16:

I know, I know, you guys are too funny...please remember I drastically reduced my amounts of birds from over 50 to now just over 30 after Safari died.

other than a quaker I intend on buying(or maybe not, I'm still on the fence on that one)

all my pairs are now matched up, and I have all of my pets.
50+ was way too many, and this is a much more manageable amount.....never again....and you can make me eat my words should I get over 50 again, haha.....not including babies of course ;)
