So Mika is getting a friend! I've had Mika since July and my parents, who I live with, have fallen in love with her. Well, we went to a see a family friend on Sunday, she rescues birds and we met a cute little pearly conure.

It was like there was an instant bond and now Luna will be coming home with us tomorrow. Now I know we should keep Mika and Luna separate for a bit, or at least that's what I've heard, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for introducing them to each other. Luna is used to having other birds around but Mika pretty much has been on her own since I've had her.

Yes, you will want to keep them separated for at least 30 days, like in separate rooms. Since, your friend operates a Rescue it is important to separate the two.

Introductions will occur by voice as the two start to exchange contact calls. The goal is to have a slow introduction as they 'with' time move closer together. The big issue is the physical contact. One never knows, whether any two Parrots will get along. Even if they present with interest, it is important to always monitor their interactions.

I strongly recommend that new Parrots see an Avian Vet prior to close contact and the earlier the better.
