Oscar - Peach Fronted Conure (F)
I just took my bird Oscar into the shower for the first time and something interesting happened: while under the droplets, she stood very still and closed her eyes. She also let me touch her, which she never does. For a moment I was worried and then remembered that a GCC I follow on Instagram does the same thing (video).

Have any of your conures done this in the shower? Why do they do it?

I would not worry, conures are like 99% duck, 99%clown, 99%T-rex, trust me the math adds up.

Mine just goes nuts in water, playing, splashing, flippy-flappy of the wings. I'm sure Oscar is completely content with his bath.

I'm not worried at all! :) Just thought it was interesting that she and the GCC did the same thing and wondered if there was a reason.

Comfort? I suppose. just relaxing like we do...

mine entered a trance like state in the shower. Although I was always unsure if it was fear or comfort, I always tried to make the showers fun though, lots "wheee" and other sounds. Pretty sure the neighbours thought I was crazy

Was always a bit dissapointed he never got excitable/crazy when it came to shower time. He bathed in the sink once splashing but the next time I went to put him in he refused and wanted to sit on the towel rack

My cockatiel does this. She stands completely still and closes her eyes. I have read and I feel that some birds will do that as a sign of enjoyment or at least accepting that it's bath time lol. She doesn't try and get away from it, she doesn't flap around she just lets the water sprinkle on her. and usually parrots will be super calm afterwards and you can use that time as cuddle time

well it is true, has do do with chaos theory and imaginary numbers, but trust me it's completely legit.

Ollie does this also. It is normal, I think he is having a birdgasm.

Omg I took my jazz into the shower today and in 10 months she's never done the shower dance till today! She usually sits there in meditation but this time she extended her wings and wiped herself down with her head under her wings and did a little dance it was the cutest thing ever! So moral of the story is, it can take a lot of time for them to come out of their shell. Jazz still shows me new things even after ten months.
